Interesting story on the seabreeze news page...In WA, jet ski's are regulated by the boating laws & if I remember right your meant to be 50m away from other recreational water users like surfers. Meaning you can get in trouble for say towing your mate in at Trigg Point when other people are surfing there. Makes me wonder if Qld has the same rules, do they even require a license to operate water craft defined as boats...but anyway, "sick floater, shame about his mate below"

The 50 m rule is you must do less than 8 knots within people in the water. So step offs cant work in WA. Also for tow ins technically you should have a observer on the back. I guess though people tend to do this type of activity in remote locations in WA.

Problem is when crowds grow, then the original guys complain too many are doing it, but sadly thats just the same as any crowd argument..

Regarding your last sentence, personally I think it would be ok for a bunch of "experienced" people charging waves made possible or made lesser dangerous given the assistance of tow in to set a line & get in early with people with etiquette & yeah experience. Not so cool in a situation where the decisive issue has been water current amongst a group of people with the same issue, however not benefitting from the aid of a jet ski tow in...jet ski's can open up a whole new world of opportunities to surf waves for sure, some should be tow in only for people with XL testicles

Qld regs are 200 metres from surfers/swimmers ........
I looked into it after parko burned me a couple years ago.
4-6 foot snapper and people on skis. I used to think parko was a champion until it was my tirn to go i was in position and him and his mate snaked me on the ski and damn near well ran me over......
I know they are world champs and its their local but if you took a ski out down south in 4-6 not only would you get laughed at but the local lads would most likely disassemble your vehicle and likely give you a touch up...
In qld its different and all the jetski floggers high 5 and circle jerk when snaking and burning 20-30 paddling surfers..
Its still illegal yet qld marine dont do anything about it. At currumbin ( mate lives there) last decent swell there were 12 skis towing with 30 odd paddling..

That fully suz mate, yeah have seen many a few minor situations where regulations should have kicked in...& your thinking damn I'd like the water police to rock up now to remove these aquatic bogan bikers with np clue on the damage they're causing to our small summer swell, but nothing nea that scale. That's a lot worse than we experience in the west. I've never experienced anything close & hopefully it never nears that kind of scenario given the options over here to avoid it... Gold Coast Water Police are based on the Southport Broadwater and will never hop in their RIB or Jetski out the seaway and 20km south to police random jetski tow ins, nor will they put said craft on a trailer to launch out of Currumbin creek to write a ticket to a couple of tow in wankers when there are 1000 drunken brisbane yobbo's breaking every rule in the book on jetskis on the Broadwater....just sayin deal with it!
P.S. Tweed Heads Water Police are a couple k's round the corner hanging out at Maccas....not my state lol
