Anyone done it? Had a few opportunities lately to get some footage and then explore my defects with a few guns / technicians. Been a combination of humiliating and enjoyable. Learnt a hell of lot in the process and looking forward to doing some more. Interesting to dissect where my short comings are and work on correcting them. Still lots to be done but some good progress has been made. Thoroughly recommend it if you get the chance.

I have only ever seen one video of me. It wasn't analysis as such. I would like to see more, but talking someone into filming is always a quandary. And I am not paying for it. I thought I went alright although I was probably a bit stiffer than I thought. Threw a few buckets though.

A proper coach could only help too. I once read to lift your trailing arm to help more rotation while surfing backhand. It helped. And someone once told me to change my front foot position to be more parallel with the stringer. That helped too. Shame we don't have more mates pointing that stuff out.

very funny. yeah I had some coaching some years ago. yeah you get pulled to pieces.

we did some surf skating technique on a NORMAL SKATEBOARD. not a carving truckie thing because that does nothing.

since going back to my sb ive been working on the skatie again.

the thing is I know what and when I do wrong and I can feel that too on the skateboard.

but im getting better and faster turning and linking on the skateboard which is converting to my sb.

you don't actually need much room to do it

I also like to watch other surfers ways- good or bad as part of my on going education.

dropping arms/shoulders is the number error biggie

It is strangely encouraging to hear "bend ya knees" yelled out across the water from afar.

When I was in Costa Rica for a wedding last year, we stayed at Witch's Rock. After you went out for the morning surf in the afternoon you could go in to a class room and they would show everyone.

Very good to see how you actually look and just good for a few laughs to see everyone bail.

I purchased a Soloshot 1 from ebay with camera for $175... I'd say its been invaluable in helping me to improve my surfing. I found it helped me to compare my "feeling" of wave positioning, posture, technique vs the harsh reality of how sh1t I really looked... but then I have made plenty of adjustments that have definitely allowed me to improve so I would highly reccomend... I've also ordered the Lily cam with the 50% early incentive to replace the Soloshot, think it'll be awesome for landscape stuff with some of the hikes we do also.

Saw a post in 666 or gen last week.
It's a small drone/copter thingy which follows you from any pre-programmed distance and height. It follows a signal from a wristband or similar.
Not due out until 2016 and they are offering a pre release 50 % off for around $500-600.
It looked the goods in the promo vid.

Personally, I think you'd only take the lily out when there's a solitary line up for that exact reason, that and they only run 20mins before battery flattens but its a very cool concept though...

Personally I'd rather ride a Bright Pink foam minimal with a tail pad through an ASP comp at Jbay whilst wearing boardies (that match my board) over my beavertail wetsuit and a tattoo on my forehead that said i like the company of goats..

Each to their own though...

But i agree very cool tech, just not for me and as i said 'id hate it flying around me..

I go surfing to relax and enjoy, not interested in how i look or showing my friends.

The point is not about how you look, I use soloshot purely to see how i'm surfing and believe me, you'll never see footage of me surfing on here or anywhere. But what watching the soloshot footage did was showed me how my incorrect posture was preventing me from effectively walking up the board and getting to the nose, was still stuck too much in the short board crouch, reckon i'd still be doing it if it weren't for that... also bare in mind though that there are basically zero longboarders in Tassie to work with, plenty of people with long boards that they ride off the tail but no longboarders.

Lots of longboards but no long-boarders. I have exactly the same thing here. If I knew one, I would love to try a log and a HP just to see the difference. Probably best I don't though. I might want a quiver of lbs then.
