i went for a surf today, got home and the wife said lets hit the surf at the end of our street so i sucked it up and said OK deer. we arrived at the beach and she said it was to big (about shoulder ht) she said you surf and ill swim and sit on the beach.
cool so i am off catchen some nice glassy waves for about an hour when i could hear a voice yelling, looking back at the beach i see the wife waving her arms and making very funny signs, yep the penny dropped and i was in.
she told me there was a shark about 80m to my right i have faith in her judgment of that fact even though i didn't see it. i surfed this beach before and had a shark surfaces 50m from me 20 years ago, and i did SH!T. this old bloke up at the golf club told me JUST two weeks ago he was swimming with his dog at my beach and he was out about shoulder ht when a shark swam between him and the beach and reckons his heart is good for at least another 20years
the other funny thing is our beach has FIVE bait drums on it.

Good to see that you made it back to terra ferma Weiry
Gets the heart rate goin eh.

Last saturday i was paddling across a rip up at Coolum ( 6:30 - 7:00 am King tide )
and I had what I think was a Bull shark swim right up to me as I was paddling.
It was only about 3 foot long and about as round as a 2 lt coke bottle.
It came from my left hand side and swam right up under me about 2 foot under my board.
I freaked and as I was paddling slapped my right hand hard into the water mid paddle.
The thing took off so fast from under the nose of my board and it was gone.
After checking my undies I got 2 more waves and went in just in case mum was close by.

You guys read George Greenoughs stories in Surfing World on his shark experiences
Good personal accounts and useful info about dealing with sharks in the surf

Yer mate it was a good read. I have seen a few over the years now and had one or two close encounters.
The ones I have seen mostly are in clear water. which is better I guess because you can see them.
Its when surfing dirty water after heavy rain. when you can't see them until they are there.
Scares the crap out of me every time.

Chrispy, your injury would be similar to a shark bite actually! Ouch. On a scale of 1-10, how's the leg?
