When should you thin out the quiver? I have boards that i haven't used in over a year. mainly because i ride one or two board 99% of the time. I feel like i should move the boards that aren't getting ridden on, but cant quite bring myself to do it.

You can only ride so many. I just sold a few that weren't getting ridden or were doubled up. I'd just say try and surf them before you sell them to make sure you have gone off them. Never sell the magic one and most boards these days can be reordered so not hard to replace most things if you change your mind.

You have to think long and hard about this.
I like to think of it like this, would my missus be ecstatic if I got rid of a couple boards---yes

would I---no not at all not one bit.

i have a couple dozen boards I got a bit heavy over the last few years and couldn't ride half of them, last year I got Ross river and lost 14kg I now have a whole quiver of boards I would of had to rebut.
do not sell your boards

tough question...but will depend on your current quiver set up.

The way I decided on my Minimum Longboard Requirements (5) was to make sure I had all the important categories Covered.

Bearing in mind I have a preference for Traditional Styled Single Fins.

The Following are said categories.

9-6ft - Single Fin, Daily Driver/Nose Rider
9-6 ft HP All Rounder - ITP (2+1) -
Traditional Log Single Fin Nose Rider - 10ft
Traditional Log Single Fin Nose Rider - 10-5 ft
Glider 11Ft

I have a 9.1 HP which gets no love and is taking up space...so its on the way out to keep me at 5.

Anther way to look at it Kiwi , is sell afew of the ones you not riding and Buy a New One that you are keen on.....this is a total Win Win, as your overall Board count goes down but your New Board stoke goes Up!

I used this technique to thin out my shortboards...but replaced with some epic Mids and afew Fishes etc...

The Golden rule however is never get rid of a your First board or any that have sentimental value...like one a family member gave you etc..

good luck bro.

Glide makes good sense however I'm a little confused about the 10 / 10.5 footer logs. I still don't like this thread

Kinda agree..

I reckon if your a quiver whore get a
Fish
Good wave shorter board.
Mid length / daily driver
Bigger wave board
All rounder lb
Small wave Log / glider.

Possibly a good wave log and an old mal but they probably don't get ridden much..

I'm sure the question was asked about his longboard quiver.

If you love longboards the craft and longboarding go nuts buy heaps keep them all.

Lacey you've mentioned time and time again your a part time longboarder so can your really make judgment?
You've owned a heap of shortboards I count 5 you've owned all at once, so why the difference? and lets not talk
all the 666ers.Not having a crack at you but this needed to be pointed out

Yeah good point...the 10.5 is kinda not essential and would not leave a hole but is really fun and something abit different. It's a BING silver spoon -hand shaped by Matt calvani and I couldn't pass it up.
I'd imagined it to be a great little wave boards but...Funny enough the couple of times I've ridden it I've turned up to the beach and the waves have been bigger and better than I thought and I've surfed it in some solid waves...Big Hatchet fin and all!
but certainly heaps heavier and a lot more foam that the 10ft mct....and has even more pinched rails. ...definitely a keeper!

Never try and justify yourself to the missus, it makes you sound guilty. Just pretend that's what everyone does

I kinda agree with the 2 lb thing not a 2 board quiver.
A 9ftr and a 10ft are sufficient for me.. Just accumulated a few more by accident could easily do without them but they get ridden so I don't feel to bad about it. I reckon as long as they are getting surfed then it is ok to have more the 2. Especially if that's all you are riding.

We got a good variety of waves so LBs don't always suit. Especially summer shories or when it's bigger. I probably ride the allround 9ft LB 50% of the time. The midlengths get ridden a lot, fish, logs and bigger wave board maybe only 10 - 15%.

My racks hold 9 so that is kinda my self imposed limit.

Well. Shortboards are a lot more finely tuned then longboards so the variations are much broader too . Even with in the same length. They are highly tuned planning and turning machines.
I hope this helps you out to understand the pointed out difference. No offence of course. And i didnt want to bring up shortboards either but.
Cheers

For mine for someone like yourself who rides short long and 666 you had a very good Quiver in the noserider and the green evo which you surfed the board I've seen you on a LB. PS. Matt owns 5 shortboards but seems to has 2 that are his go to's.

You could always get another rack.
They don't cost anything sitting there, and I just like them.
If it was a race car that needed fuel and tyres, different problem.
Works of art that are occasionally used for recreation?
No problem.

I have a performance log number which sounds like a lot but it works and its a good all round package imo. But a glider for ultra small is appealing

Funny you say that cause there is another rack. It holds retired legends, beaten up keepers, vintage / collectable and even a devils gondola.
Think I was up to 23 all up at one stage but decided to allocate my toy budget to other areas.

I have 1 8'10 666
9 & 9'4 longboards, one I can loan out or feel comfortable throwing on a plane.
6'4 wide board for when I'm feeling lazy/tired or the waves are fat.
6'4 semi goto, overhead sucky waves but mainly a spare great for packing to protect other boards.
6'2 goto
6'2 great for sucky waves
6 everyday hypto shape, main board for local waves when a shortie is the go.
6 almost as usefull as the hypto shape, I still use occasionally. Its going to Taiwan with me in a few weeks. Not worried about dinging it.
Last but not least an alloy steel stringered Rick Jacko 6'8 nostalgia board I surfed from Margs to Bells for over 10 years. Gonna get it restored in Bali next time I get over there. Will also remove the fixed fins & put in some futures boxes so I can use it as a goto board for good sucky waves.

I need them all, just some more often than others. I'd only sell a board if I didn't think it went well for me
