when vanders and I were down at the factory with del I started talking about the surfing nemesis. the nemesis was brought up in a conversion that I had with a bloke I surf with a fair bit. He said to me that he can be surfing so good ,just everything is going so nicely....then so and so paddles out and he starts surfing like a kook. I just laughed.

then I though about it,and I realised I have a surfing nemesis as well. macca from Clearwater, my mate dane and grunta. I could be on fire, waves coming to me through the pack like im a magnet. Catching them and everything is solid...then those pricks paddle out and it goes pear shaped.

I also consider lm a nemesis, whenever I go there I seem to surf poorly....

so does anyone else suffer from the surfing nemisis

Yes,I'm going to call it The Greenroom enemisis.

What or Why you may ask?
Well I spend way too much time sitting around watching fellow members surf.
Dont panic I really enjoy sitting there watching others catch waves.
The main nemesis is myself way too much thinking about other things instead
of where I'm at and what I'm doing.
The fear of Lacey talking about new boards post surf is a big one also

Nope not really, I try to maximise my wave count by placing myself not so much where the best peak is, but where I'm going to have least amount of hassling. That often means I'm sitting deep where I'm duck diving sets & catching the middle size inside runners.

Anybody else of reasonable talent puts me off my game.

i don't know what it is but all my surfing life (46 years) I started when I was 14, i can be having a great surf and enjoying myself, some other dudes who look reasonable paddle out and I am gone.

i don't get waves I surf about half as well and I can't pull off manoeuvres I was easing into before.

it really s a nemesis Chrispy. But I am very glad that it happens to other people.

I have a mate that just destroys me when he paddles out. Big smile on his face, friendly banter, and then sits one metre deeper than me. Always. Catches a wave and paddles straight to the top of the line again and when called on it just smiles and just says "oh come one...don't be like that." Ten minutes of that and it's all over for me.

The pommy chick on the 666 calls me into waves these days. She's improved alot over the last couple of years & has a preference for the same bubble. She says she doesn't mind if I go too, so I just get on the outside of her if I'm on a LB or the inside if I'm on a SB & share. Its funny coz she seems to get twice as many waves as her other 1/2 & I see her out there more often than him. They have only just returned in the last 2, 3 months. Like others they skip the larger, cooler months, lumpier months.

.....I've had plenty of run'ins & words with people in the past. But as far as a nemesis goes I don't have one. Not one that suddenly jinxs my surf. Just people I have think well ok, they're on the inside of me. No use even paddling for the wave coz I know they're not going to fark it. But this happens a lot more when I'm away from my local lol.....

The description is of your typical 666'er Deano...so she is just another one mate. But since I rarely ride a 666 & never in head height conditions, I don't have the problem

haha...nah mate look I'm an honest man & I honestly havn't had a problem with her in over 12 months. So I honestly can't bag her coz I honestly believe in karma...however I can respect that you have had problems with her. I remember you did sometime over the winter & maybe more recently. But I'm speaking for myself mate...no dis respect towards you & your opnions. Of all the people I know you would understand my statement above...cheers

On a side note, I hope there's some scraps left over tomorrow, coz I'm fanging...expecting to take my my 666 for a grovel

Well I can be my own nemesis if I'm on my game its all good and if better surfers paddle out ill even amp it up a notch, but if I'm off it ,its sad and ill usually get a couple go in and get a bigger board to try and smooth things out a bit or go home and mow the lawn.My lawn is looking superb atm.

i've had some skin problems around my forehead and temples etc which we believe have come from sunscreens.

took a while but got it sorted with calendula thank goodness.

ive got a chemical free and nano free etc etc sun cream to counter the the effects of other everyday sunscreens.

it goes on pretty think and its got a gritty feel . however it rubs mostly off and washes off with soap pretty good ,

anyway ive got a white face when i use it and in summer im wearing the long sleeve rashie atm

i can tell blokes are righting me off when i paddle out until i get a few waves.

so everyones is my nemesis when i start a surf

There's always someone. 99% of the time I'm fine even though Im out there on the barge. There was one guy in particular that I'd had a few run ins with but he's moved out of town so I'm happy. Someone you don't like can be out there and at times it can get to you and it can wreck your surf. I reckon most people who surf at one or two places regularly would get that.

My friend Jordan is my nemesis. Nice guy but a little bit cocky. Always telling me how to surf. Which kind of annoys me. He's always keen for a surf but I dont really invite him anymore.

Numbnuts who drop in on me three times and then get annoyed when the favour is returned. Funnily enough another local saw it, paddled over, sat next to him and smiled. Then smiled some more. And smiled some more. Then the Brazilian went in. The intimidation of the smile.
