Thanks Chrispy

and a big NYR to you and the family. Personally for me NYR is the complete opposite almost

I find it the most over-rated day of the year - such build up, crowds, idiots everywhere, poor behaviour, overcharging, crowded surf, poor weather, hard to get home etc the list goes on. I have been fortunate and had some amazing NYRs in places like New York, London, Paris, Edinburgh, Sydney, Marg River ( *2 in the last 3 yrs

) and even NZ. Normally these days I am in bed well before the clock even gets to 10 let alone 12. When I was younger NYR ruled the roost - its all anyone talked about for months before hand and months afterwards - where are you going to be? Whose going? What ya doing? etc. We would spend literally a year planning it. These days happy to just hang at home or a mates place around the fire and talk crap

Tom I am on a train at 5am heading to a place called Galle and will be spending the night in the old fort with the chicks. Early on the 1st life becomes normal again and I head back to the beach. Can not wait. Twice in the last month I have spent more than 10 days away from the ocean and it sucks (yes that means I have spent almost the whole of Dec inland

). Think caving, tea plantations, hiking and ancient cities..(you have to mix it up occasionally

). Anyway I hope you have a wicked day tom no matter what you are doing. Enjoy yourselves immensely and get stuck in. I shall be giving it a good nudge

..and most of all as Chrispy says have a great NYR no matter what and all the best for the coming one ahead. May it be more enjoyable and more productive than the last

I still surf by the way

This was me getting tubed at Sigiriya (Lion Rock) yesterday (need to keep training)

Awesome spot and one you should visit if you ever get the chance. Nothing like a few ruins from over 2,000 yrs ago to get ya thinking

They call it the 8th wonder of the world. Not hard to see why. It is among the oldest landscaped gardens in the world.
