There's a ton of youtube videos on the surfing pop-up but I have not seen any advice on getting back down. To be honest, I am still riding every wave as far as I can then stepping off the board (if I have not already fallen off)

I am about to try getting back down on the board and paddling back out, but I think it could be be an easy way to ding the board by hitting it with the knee, or smacking my face on the board if my hands slip off.

So please, share your experience and advice to help me learn.

Cheers,
Kadi'

I'm too old and stiff in the legs to get back down in any sort of an elegant way, so I just usually fall off or run to the nose and let it sink with me on it.

The only exception is when I kick out really high and hard and the board goes almost a full 180 back, I can then just fall forward and start to paddle back out.

I tend to manage to do that roughly once in every 14,000 waves

Howdy. Most guys would tend to 'flick out' towards the end of the wave if it had not already broken... it's just a sharp turn up the face and over the wave... and just as the board is starting to settle (but still moving) just sort of grab the rails and go down as you would naturally go to into the 'push up' position...

It is much easier on your forehand (face to wave).

You may not find any instructional videos... but watch the end of the rides on any LB vid where they are cutting out.

NB: your knees should not touch the board - generally once your hands are on the rail then lower your chest to the deck...

Like everything else it's just practice...

i hate it when you flick off and squeeze a nut... painful as...

Kadil, GPA has given a good description, i'd add try and get all your weight on your back leg as you turn, taking the weight of your front leg helps it turn off the back easier.
Then as GPA said just grab your board about where you would to stand up and use your forearms on the board to stop you smashing into it to hard, try to land with your chest first. If you dont, you will squeeze a nut... or worse the board rolls and you cop the rail in the chin. that hurts like *******

i find it easier most of the time to just flick the board over the back, jump off and then climb back on. thats what legropes are for especially if you end up in front of the whitewater.

or OBCT way is good 2, just bury the nose till it slows down then just sit, lay or kneel down, turn it around and paddle back out.

When I get tired, I seem to get my hands slipping off the rail when popping up. I think the same might happen when trying to climb back down. Difference being though I am now moving towards my board ready to break my fall with my chin.. I always ask you guys stuff early in the week when it seems like too long to wait for the weekend before I can experiment myself.

At this stage I can do that 0 out of every 14000 waves. :)
