due to an overwhelming demand ( 2 ) I have posted up some pics of surfing down here , sorry no epic stuff unfortunately most of the time I surf by myself or with a couple of other oldies and normally it is a made rush to the surf then back to the warmth so none of us are mad keen photographers .Last 2 shots are me surfing at Bay Of Fires , pretty small surf 3-4 foot but absolutely beautiful scenery - crystal clear waters , white sands , red rocks this was back in January last time I got to wear the boardies .1st shot is me and the kids waiting for a set at midpoint . this would be the hotspot of surfing on the northwest coast can get a bit crowded ( 10 - 20 out ) on a good day . 4th shot is actually on the same day crazy day played in the snow in the morning had a surf in the afternoon . other 2 shots are again midpoint 1st shot was the surf on that day next shot was a southern wright whale that popped up about 10 meters behind me while I was surfing . not too proud to admit I nearly shat in my wettie till I realised what it was - massive creatures .
Your right Mac the LB has been getting a workout . I am on the Northwest coast of Tassie where the swell is pretty much wind driven . So unfortunately we tend to get our bigger surf when the wilder weather comes through . I will try and get some pics of the bigger days for you . The southern part of Tassie and the West coast have much bigger surf with the south coast copping the swell from the southern ocean and the west coast being a pretty wild place . Last time we went to the west coast the wind was so strong you had a job to stand up and the waves were literally as big as houses . The east coast is different again probably much more like Qld conditions with colder water .the Bay Of Fires is on the East Coast .
Should add since being here have got to surf twice with whales , surfed with Australian fur seals , fairy penguins , some monster stingrays , dolphins . At the time I thought surfing with a whale and calf were the coolest but after reading the last Tracks mag and how the big great whites follow the cows and calves hoping to pick the calf off I reckon next time I will be baling out of the water pretty quick .
Also surfing for an hour with a southern right whale sitting beside me without me knowing makes me realize we really have no idea what is out there with us . Half the fun of it .
