I snapped my favourite fin last night.

It was the one I found on the side if the road and filed if down to fit. It was probably made for a windsurfer.

I was thinking about taking it down to Dion or Bennetts and asking them if they could cut me a new one from their stock layup sheets and even possibly foil it for me.

I doubt they would be interested But it may be worth a try.

At least you can get one made in another colour, like Smoke Grey Fibreglass, or just Obaque Clear Fibreglass. Surely that is a positive !!

If Shaun Wilde is still floating around in Mona Vale, he should be able to do you a fin. Any of the good surfer shapers can do it... It's just a matter of having time, and a blank sheet.

If you become desperate, my shaper at Bells Beach (Doug Rogers) can do it.... I have a board on the go right now. A 7'10 triple stringer, fun point break specialty. Designed for waist high, to about 1.5 overhead. Then the guns come out after 1.5.

Round the back end of the fin off where the original hole was. Drill a hole as far back as you dare (1 x hole width is a minimum) in line vertically with where the first one was and glue the pin back in with some 5 min epoxy and she'll be good as new.

If you want it recreated you could try Wiz - would be a good reason to go up to Byron.

Did you know that Wiz will not make a 7 inch black fin

I asked for one a couple of boards back and I was told he would and will not make one because the cheap imported fins are black, got to admire a man that takes a stand,he will do smoke black but not blocked black.

Thanks CC, I may try that, in the mean time, I took the opportunity to make another one myself.

I had a fair bit of left over 200g woven and some 2mm core matting so I did a layup and cut one out that's much thinner a fraction bigger and taller with about 110% more flex that the molded plastic one.

I also made the hump more pronounced.

Took it out in some dreadful washing machine slop yesterday arvo and could not tell for sure how well it worked.

There was an excellent fullish wave this morning that really suited the Munoz so I tried it again and it does seem to have maintained the speed. But the turning is still so so.

I just love the fact he runs around the mctavish factory like a frothing gromet. Bought an FCS cutaway which is loose in the box - the next fin will come from the Wiz.

Back on topic I thought you only pulled the pin out obct - looks in the last pick you snapped her clean though. Where'd you surf this morning? Collaroy? Went for a ride on the pushie so missed the surf opertunity.

Yeah, Collaroy, got about 45 minutes in the water before I had to meet the old girl down at the Mall.

It was just perfect for the board I had, I'm dying for the bommy to get going, I reckon I'll be loading up another 10 or so meters out the back with this thing.

Went back their this arvo, it was still rideable, but only just. A few kite surfer were taking off from Longy and making their way around the headland to Collaroy. Hell they were a long way out, those guys must have huge stones.
