Hi all,

looking for a bit of inspiration for my next board build (shed hack) I currently have a flotilla of small to medium wave boards (6'2" fish, 6'6" fish, 9'6" mal, a couple of sups and a part completed 5'10 mini simmons) The 6'6" fish is my go to board for waves from waist to head high and 1/2 but due to fat tail and traditional shape/rails it gets out of control on larger waves.

I am after a board to do the head high plus range for down south, gnaraloo, a trip to indo etc. I am only an average surfer and 1 1/2 to 2x head high is about my limit these days.

After something around the 7 to 7'8" range, thinking either a bonzer, step tail flyer or a pin tail gun shaped single, plenty of meat and width and float/paddling power.

Some of Roger Halls designs look good the magic carpet or pin tail for example.

welcome any ideas or links to designs that tickle your fancy.

or

both fit the retro department, you may be able to see something that might add to your new stick.

Sounds great please keep this thread alive with updates.

Thanks Mac,

The tracker looks good, maybe with the wide point pushed fwd a bit.

Just waiting for western red cedar nose and tail blocks to cure and I am shaping the 5'10" mini so killing time researching the next board...

Nice try Mac!
Tracker template would be spot on. Except the true Tracker does have soft rails, and rolled bottom. Not a modern bottom...

That Bluebird design wouldn't be my pick for head high, but not for overhead. But it would still go well in overhead conditions....

Shunter,
Don't go too extreme on the wide point too far forward.
The Roger Hall Magic Carpet is pretty close to what you want.
I'd suggest a template that has a wide point only 4-6 inches forward of centre. Plus the elongated wide mid section. Volume = Paddle Speed.

Plus at most big waves locations, you can usually get out fairly easy once you know where to paddle out from, and if you time it between sets. So extra foam is not a big issue in duck diving.
