ok the boys in the s/b room had a nice thread about stretching. being someone who is always injured and broken i have a set routine i must go through everyday(yeh right)just to start the day. since most of you in here are old, broken, fat, old, slow, aching and anything else i might have missed.
so who does what if anything at all to keep them in their prime surfing fitness(or just to survive the day) oh the title is what my girl says to me. just because you have to stretch to get the bikkies does not count as exercise(i might have said that to her)

Stretches are important but not as essential as an anti-inflam tablet with the morning blood pressure and cholesterol medication.(where did the years go?)

Does placing one hand at the base of the shaft and another just behind the glans then intermittently extending and contracting the space between the two hands until one experiences a state of muscular calmness, count as stretching

If so, then yes, I do stretch every second Tuesday at Madam Lub Longs House of Sensual Massaging and $2 Bargain Emporium in Padstow.

A light stretch morning and night and if the bodies seriously fkt up then panadeine to start the day and valium to end it (only on very very bad days tho)

Also when I sup surf I usually park a distance from the break so I get a good cruisey warm up paddle prior to gettinto a few. This also decreases the likelihood of being beaten up in the carpark, cos the prix dont know where I parked

I do around 10ks every Friday night, the fridge is 10 meters from the couch, sometimes I do a quick sprint to the garage and do some arm pumps on the way back from restocking the coke.My tri's have a workout,a lot of fridge door opening and closing.
Also I have massive abs from getting off the couch and setting back down once drink is loaded,I stock the rum bottle a distance from the fridge, this adds to the workout and I must say,by the end of Friday night I'm stuffed.

Option 1:Well , I have an idea Chrispy one - start pinching all the Breeze beer buckets from the Grand , the bouncerboys will be enraged enough to consider chasing you - ergo exercise in running away (with the bucket safely purloined under yer arm) you'll also get the added value of some vocal chord stretching while hurling insults during the trot home too - bonus!
Option 2: Trot down to Broady and get some eyeball exercise over the Germanic Tourist girls with their short minis
Option 3: Involves skulduggery with the russki bird next door maaaaaaate

I normally go for a swim in the pool at work a couple of times a week if I am feeling the love or there is no surf. I used to do some mountain biking but have not ridden the bike for a while as it needs replacing and everytime I ride it I know that I need to buy another one but I do not want to spend the money! I do occassional stretches before a surf - more so in the winter though to make sure the wettie is in all the right places.

Chrispy, you're showing your age.......

Actually, when I was learning to surf, a mere three years ago.... my coach at the time always told me to stretch beforehand. So I did, and I always got some pulled muscle, or some such.

Further research suggested that you do need to "warm up" before any physical activity, so perhaps OBCT's advice is sound, although you might rub the skin off if you surf every day....

So I do a Pilates class every Saturday morning, then go surfing for a few hours. On other surfing days, I just put my gear on and head out, no stretching beforehand, but I do stretch afterwards! That's the important bit.

On the days I don't surf, I go to the gym for an hour, workout on weights, do a jog or a cycle and stretch after I get out of the shower at home.

When I took up surfing 3 years ago, I could manage about 20 minutes in the water and was buggered for the rest of the day. I took it up to get a bit healthier and fitter, now I go to the gym to improve my fitness to surf...... go figure.

For the record, I'm 53 and weigh almost 90kg, but carry a bit of a gut.... hence the gym work, but like all of us, I do have to stop reaching for the cookie jar!

I only just started stretching before entering the water, I've meant to for the past few yrs but get too excited as soon as I arrive at the beach so foget. I run 2 or 3 times a week 10-15kms, I bought one of those pull up, dips and crunches frames which I do 3-5 sets of before running. I have to stretch before and after exercise as my body really hurts nowadays..7 yrs in the RMC's has *ucked my knees good and proper. I eat far too much chocolate and crisps but have calmed down on the wine and beers!

You should just go to the one in Dee Why, be closer for you and you can get KFC after, just next door..

Chrispy, warming up is better before you surf, just jog to the water or something. Stretching is better done at home, just do 20 minutes a day.

I do lots of walking after work, some stretching and some core strength exercises hoping it would make surfing easy. Surfing has become "possible" but not "easy".

She is a lot of Yank but the stretches are good and have definitely helped my speed to feet and got me surfing shorter boards.
