Is it just me being a cranky old prick ,or does anyone else feel the need to smack
"no legrope beaver tail wetsuit wearing hipsters "at a crowded mid north coast point break when
there are 60 plus people in the water ,half of the crowd being tiny school kid grommets grovelling for
anything on the inside right in the firing line of a loose board!
Missed catching one by an inch and summarily removing the fin with a quick palm shot!
No legrope no Farking clue!

You removed the fin? I like your style. Personally, there is simply no excuse for not wearing a leggie if you are surfing near anyone. I copped a board in the head when I was 8 or 9 in the late 70s and have never forgotten the overwhelming thud. People with legropes are idiots, especially when the performance difference is so minuscule.

But I guess it is all about the feeling and vibe and freedom isn't it?

I mowed one down a while back when he dropped in behind me and I did a high line cutback aimed squarely at his head as he came off the bottom. They also surf hypto kryptos. . Stinking bearded burblers.

I was surfing down at the local a few weekends back and there was the local mal club point score on. Being a weekend it was pretty crowded and I'm watching this young bloke around 15 or 16 on his log and he runs up to the nose, wobbles and just falls off . His board just got washed in but it didn't hit anyone but one day it will and he'll have to deal with the consequences. I had one paddle under me on a peak one day as I was going left he decided to charge across and get under me to go right. Brave move because I was on the barge. I even called him off telling him I was going left but he was pretty determined. I took off and looked back to see this clown out the back minus his board that got washed in. Another moron who was obviously not good enough to surf without a leggie. He must have been embarrassed because he never came anywhere near me after that. Don't see beaver tails down here but saw a few guys wearing button up cotton shirts during summer.

I tried to come up with something witty, but really I got nothing other than what prats and I want to bash 'em (please bear in mind I talk a great fight anonymously on the net)

Luckily in SA its more of a shortboard cool scene.

All the longboarders aren't really the hipster type and everyone I have seen wears a leggie.

I guess when you live in a state that mainly has crap waves you don't have to deal with the beaver tails on a log on a perfect point wave.

I wear a leggie but deadset when you ride a log and cross step back 8 times out of ten you will step on the leggie and trip up.

Not saying its right but thats probably or likely the reason why they dont wear them.
Not so much the cool factor

A knee strap can overcome tangling although it can still happen every now and then. I'm sure with some of these guys the cool factor is a part of it.
