Do you think this is rubbish, especially the last bit about only paddling backwards, if they're right, I may have found the reason for my shoulders being completely stuffed.

It makes sense, you see a lot of people paddling what I call "uphill" as in, the nose of their board is above their head. You also see them lifting water with their hands, flinging it up in the air above them. That's what I think he means by "backwards" reach out, pull behind you, not upwards.

It also helps to lift your feet above your knees. Or, squeeze your butt cheeks together. (arschbucen tsusamen knifen!) This turns on your core, and gives you a little more to push with.
Although, if you're taking off on a screamer, you've probably already got your butt cheeks squeezed.....

He is pretty well spot on.
Having spent wwaaaayyy too much time swimming laps in the pool, he is using the same techniques that we were taught in swimming.
All the younger crew that were gun young clubbie or pool swimmers, all paddle like they have a motor attached.

for me loosing weight and more surfing improved my paddling endurance ...lifting the ankles makes sense as more leg & rope out of the water would reduce drag ..

I can't stop laughing bazz... reduce drag lol.

Clubbies are great to watch for paddling and also the pros on those tiny boards.

By raising your legs it keeps the front part of your body down and will stop the motor boat paddle technique spoken about. If you also watch they will not just raise their legs, but they will also use a kicking motion. The kicking motion helps a balanced paddle. Walk without swinging your arms and that's what I'm getting at

Also watch peeps who miss a lot of waves and you will find that they raise their heads up early which then raises the chest which then sinks the lower half of the body ...wave missed

Then watch a longboard clip, they will almost habe their chin on the board and the magic starts.

Try swimming without your legs and then swim using your legs...answers to be found... oh and to reduce drag

is this serious! If you can't paddle a board reasonably well by now unless you are a beginner get a boogie board and a pair of flippers

Yeah good paddling technique is instinctual. The information in that video would be helpful for a beginner but I Think the pros have down by now...
