102kg

Given my availability to surf, generally once per week on a good week my priority is to enjoy the time I have in the water so paddle and wave catching ease are high on my list. So far I'm totally happy with my 2 board quiver.

Always 24" wide

For a 10'2" I need 3 5/8" thick (as far as I know, only the 10'4" Surfblanks is suitable, and they have a very wide range of standard rockers)

For a 9'6' I need 4" thick (as far as I know, only core industries have a suitable 9'8" blank, and only in 2 rockers, there is a third rocker in that length, but it's thinner)

With these, I can catch some waves, without them, my name may as well be "Bob", because that's all I'm doing out the back.

Sorry, I don't subscribe to the school of thought that says, "it's not the amount of foam that's important, it's where you put it".

Provided the shape is good, just give me more foam.

That's why I've had to resort to making my own, few shapers want to do boards like this, they probably believe it devalues their brand.

You might need to talk to some guys from over in Hawaii...I saw a surprising number of boards that were made for very large gentlemen...I also saw a few chaps that would of pushed the 150kgs mark tearing the **** out of it...foil is going to make a big difference at this size and depending on the persons height it can effect the leverage over the board in turns...a 100kg guy at 5 foot is going to need a different rocker and plane shape as guy at 100kgs and 6'4

195cm / 100kg (there abouts)

10 x 24 x 3 1/2.

If you are a big bloke & want a big board, get a big bloke to shape it, they understand what works / doesn't work from a size point of view.

If the surf is too small - your board isn't big enough

Obct- look up Mick Mackie. Loves a heap of volume and will make you a gem. I saw a 6'6" single that was 4" thick.

Some of his longer singles are amazingly beautiful with all the volume in the world.

I think not enough volume is an issue across the board. I know with our waves and my ability/fitness etc if I go under 8' x 22 x 3ish I wont be catching waves. You want to catch waves you need volume for your average punter.

I'm currently cruising at 101kg, Normally 97 kg and should be 90kg Hahaha so all my boards are based on being 100kg anyway.

Smallest is a twin Fish 6'0" x 21 3/4 x 2 7/8 to the 9'5" x 22 3/4 x 2 7/8 McT Involvement

I wouldn't call Bob McTavish a big bloke
but Bob did a good job on my 10 x 24 x 3 1/2.

Too many variables to make rules re weight to board size. I'm sure all have seen big blokes rip on small boards. Fitness, injuries, how often I!ve been getting a surf and a heap of other stuff effects which board comes out.(93kgs)

Bang on man. Go big and dont be afraid. When i got my first 12 fter i was 155kgs. Big boards allowed me to surf more and easier. I caught heaps more waves than i would have say riding a 10fter, catching more waves made me surf more and become a better surfer, lost weight, now can surf 9 and 10fters if i want but there is nothing quite like a big board when you get use to it, its hard to go shorter. There's no shame in having a big board afterall doesnt the surfer with the biggest smile when the competition of the best surfer? Ha

How did you go at good angas on a big board? Was it bowly when you surfed it? I struggle at times on a big board when it gets hollow. Sometimes i get that perfect paddle and angle, all is good.. ( i said sometimes). Yet on a board half the size its a piece a ...
