so gents (and laaaddiess)
I've joined a local longboard club.... first comp potentially on the weekend.
I've thoroughly enjoyed my longboarding for a while but to enter a "contest".......
+'ves perhaps a few less people in the line up
-'ves my kookdom for all to see

should I sack up and make a fool of myself?

Yes .... have fun and I hope it is a welcoming club and not one of those clicky ones. And have fun again

If they are a good club give them a pimp on here. I'm sure most clubs need more members and some crew would like to find a club that is welcoming

Enjoy the day CRF. I am no star, don't care where I finish in my two heats, enjoy judging a few, have a couple of cold ones, eat one of 'the cracks' famous bacon and egg rolls and I take the piss all day. What a blast. Mate just enjoy and introduce yourself to everybody. You'll most likely end up with a few surfing mates amongst them.

I was a member of Miami BR which was a shortboard club back in the late 70 early 80's it was a very well run club.
Yes half took the comps serious but all the members enjoyed the party life and boy did we party, there was always an afternoon BBQ then we would hit the clubs great times.

I went in one longboard comp that was held in a packed house snapper I got one average wave in the 20 mins, comp should never be run with the nob.

Enjoy mate I hope you meet some good guys and have a blast.

I worked with this bloke once and he would ask questions that he knew the answers to.
I would be eating a sandwich and he would say "you having lunch? You are eating a sandwich " and my obvious reply would be yes... then I would be putting a jumper on and he would "are you cold? You are putting a jumper on " I would blow my nose and he would say "you got a runny nose "

I was at a loss as how to answer a question that somebody asks when they already know the answer?

And here I am again asking the same thing

So what happened then? They axed you for getting too many waves? You threw your toys? Had other things to do? Got sick of waiting round all day when you could be surfing? The parties were crap? The BBQ average?

I am all ears

Nah not kaaaaarrrl mate lol

Stoked your comp was awesome.

As I posted earlier let everyone know what club if it was good aseeing most would love more members .

Et you are half right mate. As Mac knows my club was not a welcoming club and was very clicky, geez I lost a heat to a bloke that did not catch a wave .

There were some nice blokes in there but they all left as well. I am koining again this year for another try.

Et. Burleigh longboard club is a awesome club. They were so welcoming and loved a good story . Great bunch of blokes.

So yeh and nah

In the past have been the President, Contest director and committee member of a well known club.

What starts off as a good idea with co-operation and common goals, turns into a bunch of try hards thinking they are all Nat Young types (no offence meant Nat) and quickly becomes a bunch of wankers who think they are better than everyone else and are entitled to all the waves at a certain spot because they are club members.

Not for me anymore, several times bitten and have learnt my lesson.
