i agree....you dont see him do one big roundhouse cutty and make it back on the face......with the air he did,but it is kelly.

he did say it was a elite level wave, and for good reason....

lacey, would you not love to spend a few hours surfing that? i leaked a little thinking about how much fun it would be

Well spotted Mac.

Not a longboard wave, that's for sure.

Or an old mans wave but fun to watch.

Yeah but that wetsuit gave it away Apparently its in Califonia's Central Valley, near Fresno. Lets hope they bring a few to Oz soon. That looks incredible. Interesting to see they have changed their approach from the round style pool to the wavegarden style. Wonder what Mr Webber has sitting under his xmas tree.

and the bonus to that is ? ......? for the average keen surfer ?
excuse my cynicism but the fun factor disappears inversely proportionate to the amount of exposure !
the day it becomes an Olympic sport is when i enroll in knitting ..and complete my masters at origami !

yep that could work.
can't see surfing in the Olympics wrecking surfing, plenty of new sports turned into Olympic events and never changed things.

the only thing i have about these wave parks is, unless the wave changes, its just going to be repetitive surfing for the pro's.

the average punter with cash and no free time will love these things.

for me, it just increases my crowed phobia.

you can have the pool the piss the noise the concrete and fake palms long waiting lines.

ill stick with this.

Disagree. Definitely has the potential to be damaging

More exposure = more potential surfers = less waves to go round at the end of the day.

So whilst you might argue it will have minimal impact at your place there will be huge impacts in other locations.

nup nothing to do with where i live ted.we don't have crowds because its not the surf mecca.

exposure Mmm your forgetting where you are from where you surfed last year month and day...do you think you've had NO impact

more exposure haha try bali when i surf ulus in the 80s to now. northern beaches of sydney in the 70s to now

goldcoast in the late 70s early 80s to now. all these changes before any Olympic show.

the traveling surf show, surf brand fashion culture, travel, inter web has been exposing surfing world wide for decades.
fact people don't live under rocks anymore.

no i disagree ted the damage has been done decades ago, olympics will do nothing compared to other factors.

the interesting side to the wave pool debate is the breakdown $ per wave.

if you take a surf trip and break it down travel $$ food drink $$and time away and break it down to $$ per quality wave you get on a surf trip.
then compare it to $$ per wave at a wave pool.
would be a interesting fig.

The wave is 400m long yeh?
I'd be stoked just to ride 50m of it. They could create like 8 take off points down the line so 8 guys get a go per wave
Price point could be the more you pay the longer (distance) your allowed to ride
