Jeez - makes you wonder why those in power approve effluent pipage (spelling?) to public beaches ..... we have issues in Cockburn Sound over here every so often at the WTP there ... then there's that pipe at Bondi in NSW

Slow news day?

At Surfrider on the Northern Beaches we have spent 16 yrs campaigning (it was one of the main reasons that the SR Northern Beaches Branch was estabilshed in the first place) for improved sewage and storm water outflows at Warriewood and finally after lots of flase starts and lots of small improvements along the way things are much improved and we are stoked with the outcomes. We are now hard at work on helping to improve the Manly situation. If you are interested in joining yr local branch to help them to fight a similar campaign I can send you the local contact details - it will be a long and drawn out process and involve sitting in on loads of crap council meetings, stakeholder workshops, touring the sewage plant is always fun despite its unpleasentness and taking part in activist events (we paddled a big blown up Pooh down along the beach front once - will try and find the photo) you can get action. It is worth it. The SR people on the Gold Coast have been doing some amazing stuff this last year as well. You will also meet some great people and have a ball. I left the northern beaches 15 months ago but still go down the first Wednesday of every month for our meetings. This Sat night its our xmas party which is always a blast! If you are interested check out www.surfrider.org.au We can never have too many people!!!
