you would still get glide if the nose was a little pointer. i'm not talking a shortboard nose chrispy.

to my why of thinking a slightly more pulled in nose would enable you to have more curve in the outline- equals better turning.

right i'm going to re invent the mal with your mate steve

Simondo has a few boards that look almost like a grown up shortboard with lots of that curve LL.....plus he loves a good technical discussion - I reckon he might even throw some science in as well....this should be a good discussion. For my two cents I probably think its a combo of tradition and volume. I recall yrs ago Nat Young riding shortboards with the nose sawn off as he said that there was no need for the last 4 or 5 inches....when you think about a boat or any other type of watercraft when you take length off generally it comes out of the middle - hence why a 35 foot boat is significantly bigger than a 30fter.....I like the concept of the shorter stubbier nose on my short boards - means I can retain a similar amount of volume but have a shorter board.....maybe if the longboards all had a more pointy nose then they would be an extra 6 inches longer or so?

ted, im thinking a bit pulled in at the nose. i'm thinking you could turn the board a bit more further in position rather then stepping back to lift the nose out so it don't catch.

think 12'6 bullet nose. i'm sure you could still nose ride it and i could turn it from just behind the middle in the right part of the wave

hey guys, i'm not digging for dirt here. just thinking outside the box, being a outsider myself

That's a very good question. My performance mal paddles better fin first as the nose area makes it easier to catch waves I reckon it's purely to allow for nose riding and glide. If you reduced the nose area you reduce the glide but you reduce the swing weight to so it might turn better, quicker.
But would it become a stretched short board with less glide and wave catching ability. It would look like a rhino chaser. I haven't had a problem with the nose catching unlike some wider nosed short board which seem to catch on the down or straighten out turn. Not the katana but
