has anyone signed up for the new hd service? if so is it worth the $70 a year? i never really go off the cameras that much yet have worked a couple of reference points that do help me. i just think the quality off their cams have gotten worse since they are trying to flog this product

When I lived in Sydney I used them and found them pretty useful. Now days I am lucky and just look out the window (live on a large lake) to see what the wind is doing. I use the buoys as a guide for what the swell and period is doing so never need the cameras anymore (also there are none around here) and as its only 3km to the beach I visit often.

As for the $70 bucks on coastal watch don't really think it is worth it, i was told the cam stuff is the only thing that you can't get else where and even the you get the live cam just in lower resolution on their normal site . Personally I always thought swellnet was better, the guy who does our local report never gets it right on coastalwatch. And Seabreeze graphs are always good.

i won't as i go off the wind ,tides ,swell direction etc as the cams are a guide only because i have found when you actually get to the beach it is not exactly as the cam shows imo

I've signed up, only due to the 6 month sub to surfing life and a copy of 9th wave. The cams are about as useful as tits on a bull if you live in Perth though.....

Speaking of coastalwatch, I can't seem to get the cams on my iPad.

Apparently iPads don't use flash.

By downloading Hurley Lite, I can get the most recent still image, but no cams.

Am I rooted?

Or can I get cams if I fork out the big bucks?

Your rooted. iPad is great for somethings but viewing cams isn't one of them. Or at least I haven't found a cam that will work.

This will change soon as other options that are now available are rolled onto websites. Hope it's not too long away! I really miss flash on the pad

Yeah I heard flash was dying, great news. Biggest drawback of the iPad in my opinion. & that awful new operating systems update, if you haven't updated to the new one I wouldn't. Has a habit of refreshing cached webpages and crashing safari.
