Must be a leading question to plug an over-priced Mctavish board that gathers dust at the factory.
Any surfer worth his salt who lives on the Gold coast should know Dick Van Straalen is the man when it comes to carbon fibre boards.
Dick and his glasser Mo have been refining their cf boards for a long time. They have them dialled in.
You either love them or hate them just like some feel about eps vs poly.
I love the eps/carbon fibre boards.
So I don't get a bomb in the mail the McT cf board would be a hard sell to the un-initiated especially because of the premium price and most people will be put off by the black cf esp when they are in Qld.
You do have to be mindful of them when not in the water.

sorry, wrong man for a mact plug. there is a debate in the 666 board review section about carbon surfing 666's. so i thought i would put the question here.

your right tho. carbon is dear but some board makers use it as a licence to print money.

same as jacking up big prices for a standard tint imo

Last time I talked to Dick he said he's now painting his full cf boards.
No doubt to minimise heat concerns with the full black cf finish.
All the cf boards I have had from him have been black cf and have had no heat issues.
They have a screw top vent which is left open when out of the water.
I used to have a van and so would put them in a board bag inside the van.
Best to use a white board bag if on top of roofracks and avoid leaving them on there to bake.
The earlier cf boards from Dick were a bit "industrial" in their matte finish with a more open cf weave.
The last couple I've had were with a full gloss and with a finer weave cf.
They were absolutely beautiful to look at.
Currently only have one cf DVS which is a 9' reef runner that was one of Dick's own boards.
He makes his with a finer weave cf cloth than he uses with customers boards.
The 8' all rounder I used to have was a super versatile board.
I had a poly 8' all rounder and had Dick shape me a cf 8' allrounder.
From the first surf on the new cf board I knew it suited me and I sold the 8' poly months later after blowing the dust off it.
I kept the 8'er for 2 years and then had Dick shape me a 6'6" (weiner) which is a scaled down all rounder.
Sold the cf 8'er to finance it.
Btw bought the cf 8'er for $1300 and sold it exactly 2 years later for $1100.
It looked absolutely flawless except for very light heel denting which you couldn't see as it had versa traction on the deck for the 2nd year I had it.
Still kicking myself for selling it.
One thing about the cf allrounder. Never failed to make a section no matter what size waves I surfed it in at Noosa.
I like their strength, lightness and responsive lively feel under foot.

Hey, you guys stop taking the piss out of Dick!
Boom, boom!
On a more serious note he's been doing a bunch of boards out of his range in Balsa lately.
They'd be worth having a peek at.

Hey
I had an Aviso short board too light for momentum can't imagine how a longboard would go. The company closed down as the asking prices were too high & very hard to mend if dinged without the foam.

Don't forget to mention you've had a couple of DVS longboards (8&9'ers) amongst fish and weiners (rather than chips).
Wink, wink.
