A step deck has a thinned out nose, often with a step as the board transitions from the thicker under chest area into the thinner nose. Less thickness= less swing weight. Because the nose is thinner it is also supposed to flatten when you are on the tip, under body weight, effectively reducing rocker. Having said that, I haven't been able to perceive this happening on my Tyler step deck, but it is heavily glassed.

It looks unreal SP and a stepdeck would be interesting to ride for sure. The board looks pretty much new.
