Hi everyone

I have looked at a few of the other posts but still need some advice. I am looking at buying a beginner surfboard from a mate before he heads back overseas

He sent me a message with the details of the board so ill try break it down. the board in question is a 8' dartboard, the fins are speed hop? doesn't know the brand of the stomp pad and it has a Fcs rope and Fcs bag.
he is asking $300 for it.

myself, I am 183cm (6ft), 77kg. i live in adelaide. I have absolutely no surfing experience except for a school trip about 5 years back in which i did manage to stand up most times except we were on foam boards. I also probably won't be out everyday surfing, more likely one weekend a fortnight or every 3 weeks.

cheers heaps guys

Mate the dart boards are a very very basic board but if its in excellent condition then the package is not a bad price (its about what its worth) - HOWEVER at your level of experience and taking into account your height and weight I honestly think that an 8ft (very basic low volume board) is way too small for you at this stage. You really need to be getting onto a 9fter or a much higher volume mini-mal in order to make your learning process much easier and a lot more fun. If you look around you will get a nice longboard for about the same dollars although you may not get a cover, but thats not a big worry if you are getting an older board.

Mate first up excuse the guy's above for not making you a welcome mat.

I would go for 9.1 x 22 7/8 x 2 7/8, good volume for your 77 kegs Depends on how much you want to spend You can either buy a cheap import or a good second hand board, when your learning it makes little difference to what your riding as long as the volume factor fits your weight imho.

I would check your local longboard stores, dont go to a shortboard store, they will try and sell you a fun board, because thats as close to what they stock that will suit your needs.

Check around and report back here and we will guide you in the right direction

Mac you forgot, dont get a board with too much rocker ie bottom curve. The more rocker the harder to learn on, less rocker easier to paddle into waves ect.
