Winter time for a wetsuit well maybe just a 2mm jacket and boardies on a sunny day here in Queensland.

I'm looking forward to some very small winter lines knee to waist high.Its time to ride the biggest board in
the quiver 10 x 23 1/4 x 3 1/4.Just cruising and having some fun,learning how to master a Noserider thats
what this winter means to me. Its always been a board I never intended to ride much but it has winter written
all over it.

Whats it mean to you?

Winter means slightly less smokers at my local .... winter means the Footy is back ..... winter means a bit more of the old hoo haa under the Doona with the Girl to get myself warm ..... winter means rain and I don't mind the rain ..... winter means that it's Ding (oopsi!) Snag time and I farken love making Ding (oopsi!) snag winter means the Godfather Asea will be buying another board and selling two more

Winter means

lines to the horizon on an ocean so grey you cant tell where the sky starts
4/3 plus boots and hoods
Water warmer than the air by a good margin
Big boards and probably bigger nuts but who can tell when they have crawled up into your stomach
Protected corners with peelers for days
Surfing alone
The smell of wood smoke
AFL on the radio in the carpark after a surf

Getting that Winter feel down here Mac but the water temp is still OK. I've been wearing a short john with a short arm rashie underneath. Best time of year I reckon. I've only got one board at the moment a 10'6 Laird 666 but it's just like riding a big longboard. Surprising how well it turns and it noserides good too. I'd rather be riding a board without a paddle but at least I'm out there. Those smaller peeling days are great for bigger boards.

means ditto bro , such an amazing time of year and also means less bodies out

It used to be similar to what Tux said - big swells n smaller crowds, smaller balls, wet wetsuits at 6am with ice on them - ouch. I love winter stews - slow cooked meat ummm washed down with a big red vino like a Can Sav from Coonawarra or Marg River. These days it's just a dreaded cold bones feelings. Yuck !



I guess for you Queenslanders Winter is really like TBs summer

Less tourists!! The Sydney siders stay away! Less warm weather warriors!

Dark in the morning, dark early at night, gusty southerlies, grey on grey days.
BUT
Clean offshore glass, lines out to sea, fun sliders when its small, beautiful sunrises and sunsets, just sweet as!

Winter is anticipation. Waiting for the special freezingly diamond bright day in a sea of endless grey and drizzle that heralds a glassy offshore grooming seriously grunty waves and an escape from bays, points and corners that provide shelter from westerlies. Big boards, locals taking in turns and calling each other into waves, absolute floggings thick, mean water. But, oh my, the sheer grunt in the dense water of winter.
Winter also means the annual exodus North to warmer climes and endless walls in coral reefs. With your next door neighbour cause he had enough of the cold and drizzle too. And your mate in the next town. And the bloke you work with. And his mate...

winter is cold.

i love any time after easter. our spots up here are now non invaded and its just back to good vibes with whoever is out. nice cup of tea straight from the thermos and warm up after sharing some nice waves

Winter down here at the bottom of SA also means empty car parks and even emptier lineups. Cold, painfully cold, water. Mornings were you wet your wetsuit the night before just so the shock of the water won't, well...........

But it's howling offshore I've been watching the forecast for the last week, and its all lined up perfectly including the tide, and besides, there is some old bloke climbing into his wetsuit with booties, gloves and hoodie. If he's going out then whats my excuse not to?
