I thought Barton Lynch was boring and crap growing up. Then I was in the water running scared at pretty solid Margies and Barton just treated it with no respect. Then he became a favourite. Just incredibly stylish.

As a grom, I liked Cheyne Horan because he rode weird boards and I was getting punched at John Willcock because all I had was a twinny and the family couldn't afford a thruster. $50. Still got it.

TC of course. And Curren - yeah I know, a yank - but geez, talk about flow.

And Slater from 20 until now. Nobody has ever surfed as well as consistently as stylishly in as wide a range of conditions. Based my layback on his - I sort of look like an epileptic rabbit, but I was inspired.

Yeah I never appreciated Kong's surfing until I saw him surfing Margs mainbreak. Taking off way inside on a wave about 30 foot face on a very big ugly afternoon in the early 90's. Bloke was a bloody good big wave surfer & it was guys that surfed big waves well that impressed me the most. But up until that time I did not appreciate Kong's surfing & he damn well pissed me off paddling in front of me at South point in 1992, causing me too pull back & breaking one of my all time favourite boards.

Mark Richards - my first inspiration & vhs video recording from wide world of sports surfing big Sunset.

Tom Carrol - beat Mark Richards in about 1983 at big Sunset & was also on my self recorded surfing compilation I watched over & over before going for a surf.

Occy - not on my vhs surfing compilation but often featured on surf vids we hired from the local video store. I always loved his snappy under the lip cutbacks to set up a barrel. First saw it at Triggs point during a world pro surf comp they used to have there back in the 80's & then several more times on the surgeons table reef at Margs main break.

Plenty of other people really, but apart from them another standout for me would be Dane Reynolds. Its awesome how he just makes everything look so easy & he's not surfing so seriously all the time. His video's are really fun to watch as a result

Mine was Tom Curren ....easily and still to this day he is my number one .

Mark Richard's, little Tommy, Kong and Wayne lynch.

Now I like Dane Reynolds and have only just started a Craig Anderson love affair. I think that bloke would go awesome on a longboard. Does anyone know if he does surf them? Also clay Marzo just baffles me with everything...love it Ryan Burch for now as well
