Ulladulla Golf Course is 6 foot - 2 to 3 times my six foot height - and it is begging to be ridden by a good longboard. From the endless possibilities of the Infinity Wagon you pulled up in, what board do you pull out? Dimensions, fin set ups please.

I ask as it is very similar to some waves I pull my longboard on and I am curious what more experienced longboarders would ride on a wave like that and why. I am loving the longboard and I am curious if I really need another one. (Smart comments about never too many need not be included as we all know there are never too many, but do I NEED on?)

Had my eye on this a number of years back but didn't get it. You could probably ride this in most waves . It even looks fast.

Cheers, certainly looks sweet as well as fast. Any idea of the dimensions? I couldnt quite read them on the pic.

From memory I think it was 9'3 and around 221/4 wide but you could take out most modern longboards out in bigger waves I guess. What have you got now ?

here's a 9'1 I had that was good in better waves. Fin set up was 2+1 but the centre fin wasn't too much bigger than the sides and the board was fairly thinned out as you can see in the tail shot. It was 22 1/4 and 2 5/8 thick . Coincidently it was made down near Ulladulla.

9'4" x 23 x 3 1/4. Fairly heavy nose and tail rocker. Glassed in wooden laminate fin. I have been surprised how manoeuvrable it has been in solid waves yet how well it holds in. I still can't throw it around as well on my backhand - I have only had it two and a half months - but on my forehand I am doing carves in the pocket and foam bounce roundhouses on double head high waves. Just curious what sort of things people would ride. Mine is a bit of hybrid HP I guess. Shaped by Mark Ogram at Yahoo Surfboards about 20 years ago. It is in Mickey Mouse condition though.

It sounds like its working for you. I'm sure Simondo would have a suggestion for you. He's got a nice fleet of longboards and some good waves to ride them in.

Your doing that on a board designed and made 20 years ago wow.

When Golf Course reef is 6ft I am heading just around the corner a bit - not saying where though I have no idea what sort of LB I would ride in those conditions. i would probably be on my 6'6" or 6'2" if super clean. LBs have always been for small waves for me. Never had any experience riding them when its bigger so can not really help. As Mac said Simondo is the man - he likes the big stuff on his LBs and has a nice collection.

8'6 speed shape or something similar

Long low entry rocker....slight double to vee bottom...2 +1 setup...fairly forging front part of the rail into a nice down rail with a tucked under edge...


Dam it t now you've got me thinking that I have a 8'7 LB blank in the shed thats just begging to be made into something like this and here I was going to make a egg....

The waves aren't super critical by any means and the age is only an estimate by the shaper. On my forehand, for whatever reason, I am fairly fluid in the bigger stuff. I have surfed it down to waist high and I was a long way from a style master then. And, like I said, my backhand is a completely different story - roboman might be a appropriate image.

It was less crowded at Golf Course than the hollower waves I checked hence why I went there and surfed my pink sumo-style thing. I actually was thinking of a very specific day when I started this thread as Golf Course reminded me of some of the protected bays and points here. Later in the day I pulled my 7' singly and surfed the wave in my avatar.

Thanks Tux. And to everyone else who replied. Your opinions are valued. And I did pick Simondos brain at the start of the year. He was very helpful and while I didn't purchase a McTavish, Simondos design ideas had some input into my 8 foot 2 + 1. I though I would check others idea too.

Oops...err, longboards... in this situation where its foam to beat other longboarders...and let's face it you aren't going to be trying to noseride or the like so a wide nose is pointless (so to speak)...it's all about paddle power and then sticking the drop inside others who will shoulder hop the flatter take off area.
Anyways, take off steeper and deeper and put the pedal to the metal.

This was a great board for non traditional longboarding. It was like 9'1 x 21 x 2.75 I swapped it for a CW Whalebone & this board was sadly snapped up at the bluff. Bloke wanted it for Yalls. I wish I'd kept it, was great for local...only the swingweight was a bit high. I reckon you'd like a Meyerhoffer, I plan on getting one next year.

A long board on the left there definitely has its advantages spent a few years going right late 70's on a 7 footer, on bigger days always the clean up set

Not too bad on a north swell either.
