Reading bobs book at the moment. Am reading the bit about the short board revolution and was suprised to find out that after it happened you couldn't buy a longboard anywhere. Bob couldn't even buy a blank long enough to shape one coz none of the foam blowers would make em. Bob being bob worked out how to make one for himself anyway,,,,but he said a lot of the old time long boarders that ripped struggled on a shorty and stopped surfing....crazy hey!

Yep,they gave up but Bob always had one longboard stashed away for the smaller days, what a great read,I was congratulating Bob on the book today over coffee and he was so humble and stoked that others are getting a kick out of the read.

Lacey now has his own copy with a lovely message from Bob on the inside cover,Lacey was stoked.

When longboards were obsolete...

It a very interesting era for surfing. Wetsuits were starting to become common place, and boards were losing "feet" within a year. And leg-ropes were about to gain 'traction'! Torquay was a "petri-dish" for Quiksilver and Rip Curl in 1969... Bacteria, brewing, and ready to explode!

PS - I'm addicted to the glide, and paddle power/speed... trim speed... My regular ride, The Occasional Pin (9'6)... it's what would have been done in 1971... on the longboard scene. Except Bob shaped it in 2012. Forty One Years later....

Penicillin had no effect on the 'Torquay petri-dish' for 40 years! ... It's probably taken until about now to stabilise the bacteria...

Diversification into other brand options, must be stemming their flood on the market... (?)...
