We have a swell that will render all of my usual spots out of control over here rocking up later in the week. I used to love the days when you pack the car and go for a drive to find a protected wave when its too big for the usual haunts.

Have found some waves in places never thought I would ever see waves before. What does everyone elso do when its outta control? Stay in and watch the idiot box, do house work?...house work is obviously a last choice but you get the drift of the question

There's always a novelty break or two. Even in the upcoming conditions. Are you metro? There are one or two places that people frequent. It's not really worth it though. There are other places that I suspect will work, but I've got enough jobs queued up around the house that I won't just go driving aimlessly to find out.

If you're down south there are plenty of places that'll be working.

All I can say is thank the gods that we're finally going to see some sand stirred up. Be thankful for that.

I surf metro area, I think I know of the spots that will work, have seen them break before only one way to find out I guess. Thank god for it though the beaches will definately get the ass kicking they need!

Will do the drive by and have a look either way I think, If im tempted at least I will be ready to roll.

Problem is some of the novelty breaks require sand and none has built up yet. They're generally better later in the winter. I know of a few places that will be offshore, but I'm not willing to take the gamble and if working they'd be crowded anyway. Safest bet would be down south. I can think of some offshore places that could be cranking.

There is the one off the south side of Hillarys Marina as well.

Strictly speaking, yes.

The go-to spot in a WSW used to be at Rous Head but that's all filled in this year. And not sure I want to paddle around there this year, especially during/after a storm.

Otherwise with WSW not many options, but there are a few. You might have to drive a fair distance to find them. Not worth it IMHO, although I'm warming to the idea and considering Friday afternoon. Lots of driving for a few wind waves and a high probability of being skunked.

That bloke in the second one has bought a one way ticket to surgery-ville Mac. Awesome stuff.

Could all come down to the motivation factor, have been getting plenty of good waves just out of town so could sit this play out and wait for the calm after the storm to hit it again.

Last time I checked the Hillaries wall in a storm it had about 4000 grommet body boarders on it..no place for a longboard. Could grab my booger and get some pits...but can I be bothered?

I have had my eyes on a few spots north of perth that might work, will keep my mouth shut til I know for sure though.
