Torquay Area;
Saturday Blown Out
Sunday - light onshore, but respectable waves on offer.
Monday morning - forecast is looking good !

In fact, I got 2 screamers on the trusty 7'10 McTavish Dream Machine, Rincon '68. Overhead, from deep outside the Bells Bowl, through the bowl, to the beach... Well at Bells, at Low Tide, the final 50 metres to the beach is a nothing zone.

Long ones anyway. My favorite.... 150m+ range. I'm still stumped why you would bother with peaky 10m rides at Jan Juc some days.... Ramps, launching... Blah blah... give me long one any day of the week... 3++ cutbacks/hacks/fades/ plus the extra resultant bottom-turns...

Make no mistakes, I LOVE BELLS & WINKI !! My second wife!

(Note: Rincon has 2 localities... California Ventura area, and part of The Bells reef is also called Rincon. I wonder what the history is on that.... Mr Warbrick would know! - yeah, recycled photo! )

Yesterday Saturday, very small clean sliders on offer, today was amazing 2/3 foot sets and perfect lines all day,I hit it dead low but it would have been best mid tide.Stiff south breeze atm which means more waves during the week for the shift workers.

I wonder what the conditions were like today for the malfunction

Put it this way yesterday two sup's out, today not one.
Me and the boys have a saying,**** it must be small with the sweepers out or gee there must be some grunt today, not a sweeper out.

I know they go out on big days but not were I surf thank god.
Two things come to mind the wave is HP type at low tide and
the locals load them.

All our northern corners were blown out yesterday and today. But my local southern corner deliver a few good ones yesterday.

Today!!! not so good but I still had fun, that Munoz can make a wave out of anything.

I'm even managing a bit of cross stepping on the thing, that's something I've never been able to do.

I was able to get a good Google Earth measure on small Tea Tree (Noosa), and my long rides there are 250m. Easy 225m+.

Bells & Winki are far more subjective on actual measurement on length of ride.... make no mistake.... Long !!

At small Tea Tree, you can actually get a good reference on the take off rock (low tide), and finish point in the middle of the beach, or past the middle of the beach (on the small days).

Old Brown Water hey !! Dee Why Point maybe, but the background looks like Narra not Long Reef.

I know the Northern Beaches very well ! Great part of the world, considering it is attached to major world renowned city.

As you probably know from old posts, I got lost in Sydney for 10+ years. 5 in Manly, and 6 in Avalon, in fact Nth Avalon, 668 Barrenjoey Rd, just near the junction of Whale Beach Rd.

Torquay Vic now!

Avalon is Bells' cousin. Sth Avalon can hold a decent swell like Bells ! But we don't have a left that rivals Nth Av when it gets really freakin solid. Such a great left on it's day!

I think Nth Avalon is just about the best wave on the north side.

Smooth, predictable, easy to paddle out, choice of right or left.

Not a long walk from the car even if you don't have a sticker and everyone is usually pretty mellow.

Sh!t, I forgot about those stickers ! But yeah, you can still park really close without a sticker. I just always had a sticker.

Yeah, quite mellow. Worth the drive, even you live in Manly. My Manly mate used to wonder why they would only visit my 2-3 times per year for surf.... They always said they ended up with better waves at Av, Whale, Palm, compared to Manly, Freshy, Curly.

No stickers required in Torquay this morning to surf a 1.5-3.0m swell, light off shore !

Pumping !! Just heading out shortly. Most of the industry crew and workers will be out of the water now !! Happy days !

Sat. arvo went out between Trigg and Scarborough. Seabreeze and surf cams were all good but there was a build of of sand on the beach so the backwash was huge and when I got there...closeout city... got smashed not happy at all

MAD MONDAY !!

Round 1 to the AFL footy just finished, and it was an early season "Mad Monday" on our coast. More waves than a patient man can poke a stick at !!

There was a small crew sitting deep at the Bells Bowl, on bigger boards mainly around 8'4 to 9'0. Fun Guns I sometimes call them. I had my trusty 8'6 McTavish G2 Gun. Very nice board... great balance between paddle in speed and maneuverability.

Some double overhead ones popping through regularly. A plethora of well overhead waves, plus the odd sneaky bomb set pushing 2.5-3 x overhead.

I must be doing something right, because I had some screamers! Made every wave, bar one. I was too deep, flicked up over the back and I launched about 4+ feet in the air, board might have got caught in the lip... snapped a leggie. Board gets gently placed up onto the soft seaweed bubbles, and not a mark on her. Quick dash to the car for a leggie change.

Yes, I will load them up now.
iPhone Zoom, so pretty grainy!
I left Bells without any pics. Took some at Pt Danger on the way home.

I will get some pics from Pro Photog Steve Ryan, who was shooting....

Point Danger, some rights rolling around the point at Super Low Tide.

Torquay Point, and a seagull! Torquay Point is often around 0.7 as big as Bells. This probably wasn't even a decent set. I didn't hang around. I needed some lunch!

My dad & I in Brissy!

Whilst the surf may not have been as epic as Simondo weekend, 2-4ft E swell, no breeze and only 4 guys out made my local very enjoyable... after several crowd pleasing dismounts and late take offs, I finally found my feet and had without question the best 2hrs of surfing I have experienced.
Crikey this sport is addictive .
