If you are tight on cashola go the wet rub. If you want weight - which you normally associate with a log go for the gloss. But to be honest it does not make that much diff re weight as significant weight impacts can be be added with the glass job - Volan which holds a lot more resin against 6 oz as an example. Might also depend on how far you have to carry it to the water. I hate carrying my log on the 12 min walk to my fav spot. But happy to do it. But often it just comes to longevity and vanity - what people think looks better - aye SB
I have only had one gloss finish (my last board) and I have found it far more impact resistant. I know it is supposed to be tougher but only marginally. My experience is all those minor dings and like the stars and pressure dings that would have been letting water seep in, now aren't. Because of this the board I have coming is also getting a gloss.
I'm pretty slack when it comes to repairing dings. I like to just sand them down till they're about even & I'm done. Small dings or fractures are a little less noticeable on a sanded board. My boards are generally pretty plain for the same reason. So I generally prefer sanded...but I'd be happy with a gloss finish if I had a log with a cool artistic design
I get mine wet rubbed, doesn't affect anything to an extent worth worrying about except the aesthetics and thats the last thing Im worried about,I'm not hanging it on the wall and actually prefer the look anyway.
on a log gloss for sure....on anything else just stick to your decaf soy lattes. on the strength side I don't think it makes much difference. it comes more to how heave your glass is
just remember that over time wetrub gets 'dirty' because it doesn't repel dirt etc like a gloss and you will need to re do it if you dont want your board having that dirty look prematurely
Keeping in mind that almost every board looks crap on top after you've had wax on it for mor than a day, would there be any advantage in only dong the gloss on the underside and leaving the wet rub on top?
