So I head down to my local at 5pm to return a few calls on my mobile (I like checking out the check out waves whilst I am doing this) and I get a tap on my window. It's a mate of mine who says he his heading to the pub (across the road) and asked me to join him "for a couple". 8 schooners later I'm home and looking at too many threads atm. So is the sunset for sale Mac ?

SP, Dogs $1.47 Bunnies $2.75 These are the games we tend to win.

Mac, I thought about it. Would a custom be around $1500 I recall ?

Geez, that pretty generous IMO, I would of thought they'd be closer to something like $2.20. And dogs $1.90....

Load up and pay for that new board.... Best case cost you. $490, souths win and you get a GF and a new board.. For $0
Worst case... Souths lose your bet loses and you buy a new one for $1350 plus the bet = $1840...... Not bad..... Talk it over with the missus....

Ok... Off topic.....
My old boss once mentioned the Tab footy odds always add to about $4- 4.30. Any of the mathematically inclined people know why..

or hedge it ... shell out the 1350 coin , celebrate with a easy 100 on the Hares and make bloody sure to grab something sweet for the girl on the way back home for her lordship's finance ministers budget speech .... win , win , possible win scenario

If the odds are 50/50 SP then the price would be $2 each leg.....so u put down $1 and get $2 back if you win. However the bookie needs to make a spread to pay his way (think admin costs etc) so it would normally be around $1.85 so the bookie is picking up the spread. It's the bid/offer spread like you get in a currency or equity market.

When the bookie thinks one team is more likely to win than the other the market will show some bias ie the doggies are short priced favorites this week. The bookie might then show a more favorable bid or offer than the market based on his position....if he has lots of cash coming on the doggies he might lower his bid for the doggies or increase his price on the bunnies to make them more attractive so he can balance his book a bit better. The bookie may also show a better price one way or the other to entice money to flow that way as he believes that that team will win and he wants that position. Most bokies however prefer to make their cashola by earning money on the spread not taking outright risk. Sometimes they have no choice but to hold a lot of cash against a position - especially when al the money comes one way.

As for adding to $4 that's mainly just a function of the prices....in tennis you can have Roger playing some fella who is seeded 150th in the world and the market might be $1.03 / 15.00. The odds move based on the implied probability that the bookie thinks the result will be.

In other countries like England you are quoted a price that does not include your stake ie: you might get shown 0.85 instead of 1.85

Yeah, never really put it together like that... I had the bookies thing sorted but the $2 probability thing makes sense, maybe I should of listened more in statistics

Cheers.
