Never surfed really....

I've been windsurfing (wavesailing) for many years and now my 7 y/o is getting right into surfing. He is standing up an on 8'0" x 21.5" x 2.75" easy so today he tried a 7'2" x 20" x 2.5" (ish, no measurements on it) and is still a goer.

So I need a cheap board or two. Firstly for him and also for me as both of those boards above are loaners. I want something old that I can repair so cheap cheap dinged up is GOOD

a 8'0" x 22" x 3" or bigger for me
7'0" x 20" ish for him

WA people...... let me know.......

How about softboards Mark? A mate of mine has just brought in a heap of soft boards that he's not happy with the finish on and is flogging them cheap. I'm buying one for my young fellas birthday, PM me if you want his details.

If they are the ones for $140 on eBay I did consider it - but the young bloke started on a fibreglass board. I don't really want to put him on a softie as he will get used to it - as he is happy now I don't want him to go backwards and get used to the comfort (and lack of bruising )

But thanks for the offer and dunno why you got red thumbs?

Hi Mark, love the avatar,

Just make sure you get something with plenty of float and width for ease of catching waves and stability. You will have some idea from your pole dancing experience. Same principle applies.

You are a lucky fella as there is nothing I enjoy more than sharing the stoke of a surf with my young bloke.

Have fun mate.

Whenever my kids can do something better than me I say "mission accomplished", then I look for sneaky ways to beat them like practicing when they are busy with other commitments to extend the competition

Hey he is already better than me - stood up on his first wave on a 7ft big wave gun.
Little sh!t

Hard for me as the 8' x 22" is just big enough for me and I've only been out in waist hi waves that are all straight handers so I have plenty of speed initially, stand up, then nothin
But I'll get there.

He is begging me to go out every day, so yeah he's hooked

So c'mon guys - who has got a mini mal with a starpicket thru it for me, say $150.

Serious....... Not a 1978 model full of pressure dings, a reasonable board but with a big smash in it. There must be somebody ......

Nor I, they're not my boards.

This is them http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/padbury/surfing/soft-surfboards-and-soft-paddle-boards-from-105/1000635430

Bit different from a lot of soft boards in that they are EPS core, glassed and then skinned with EVA top and PVC bottom. I'm getting a 6ft jobby for my lad but he's only gonna be three, just figured it was better than a sponge.

Its not easy to find second hand longboards in WA as i have found out over the last 6 months - good luck with the search!

I did find a great board yesterday in a great shop in Dunsborough. I'm new to it myself and have been riding a 8'6" which my 5 year old does a better job on. A few weeks ago I was having him stand up and i was pushing him in - the little bugger rode them all the way to shore!

Oh the circle work king is talking to me

I'd really rather get 2 boards in need of repair for say $200 - $250 total, but if I can find just one for me, say a 8'0 - 8'6" x 22 x almost 3" for about $250, I'd grab it because I reckon he will go off it over winter. Plus he is working off a borrowed board for quite some time

Looking at everything for sale secondhand, seems I am dreaming about a cheap mini mal. Why can I find shortboards galore for $200 and nothing under about 400 in a mini mal?

People keep ther mini mals for some reason, and they are in generally good nick so they arnt cheap. Did find a wettie for him? Saw a young girl at back beach on the weekend and she was wearing a kids steamer but I was too far away to see the brand of it. When are you doen in Perth next?

Mark you will struggle to find anything. Sadly unless you can find something adevrtised at a garage sale. Often spend alot of time wasting just flicking through adds. Often even ringing a few that are near places of interest, like Cott, Swanborne or Scarbs. But its painfull.

I have a 7' i think it is foamy that was donated to me from a mate who bought it brand new from anaconda. I didn't like the look of it but kept it as a spare board for kids friends. If you are interested you're welcome to have it if you think you'd use it

If it is a softboard (as in EPS core/ skinned / EVA deck) I am keen. But he has been on 'real' boards so would not go back to a foamy.
If you can P.M me what it is I'd be appreciative

Weiry, I live in the wind capital with good waves too so if I can surf in morning with the young'un and windsurf in the arvo when it hits 25kn why would I sell the WS gear

Dogggsta, I was down today briefly but no plans in the short term unless I find a board
