Fill me in lads, looking at board styles still, but wanting to make the best choice possible. So what are the pros and cons of traditional shaped boards?

Super fun on slow long breaking waves - not so much fun on short pitchy beachies. If you want glide and cruise mode they are unreal. If you want to whack it off the top or do big round house cutties it doesn't really happen - everything happens very slowly. Very very good fun though. If you have the right wave for them then they are absolutely amazing fun.

You'll get bored with cruising, and there won't be a lot of places you can do it without getting constantly snaked because everyone else out there thinks you're wasting the wave.

Both my cruisers are up in the rafters waiting for the day that I can't turn anymore and now I'm out everyday on the new one I made because it's such a good turner.

Ride a proper traditional LB for while and you will find out.

Only one way to surf them. If you try and surf them like a modern board they won't work.
Traditional log is all about walking the board, trimming and getting back and dropping your weight over the fin to turn, the drop knee turn didn't come around cause it looked cool, was the only way to turn them..

Or you can get a modern board that look traditional and will surf kinda similar but be a lot more user friendly.

This is a good clip of traditional LB riding..

Adapt if your just getting into longboarding skip the traditional type board first and go for an all rounder type board,I think your from the GC ?
Pros they should pick up ripples,Cons bitch to turn.

Difficult perspective to see, unusual tail shape.

It's a bit hard to explain but it's in between a rounded tail and rounded pin

Hey buddy,
ive gone fully trad with my log and I still surf it in punchy beachies, but they are definately not ideal for a variety of surf, plenty of other options that will give you the best of both worlds. SP and Ted both summed it up well.

A good Trad log is pretty technical to ride and definately not forgiving especially if you go with super pinched 50/50 rails as an example.

theres heaps of good longboards on the market these days, but trad logs should be surfed Trad unless you are Harrison Roach or CJ Nelson and the likes. Still they are a great way to fly

This is my McT Involvement. Classic Aussie pig style, similar to yours in template outline other than the square tail. Strongly favours trad surfing.

Looks very flat? Not much rocker?

And lofty, yeah Wnut is good, one of the reasons I started to like LBs..

I was bored the other week on a rainy day so did a back to back endless summer movies.. Would have been years since I watched either, Forgot how good they are..

i think i've posted this here before but but, when it comes to trad-style longboarding, i think it bears reprising. toots at queens in hi. i just love the way he surfs, very economical in his movements yet he uses pretty much all of the wave.

btw / wingnut was out at my local break the other morning for about half an hour. he's super fun to surf next to and still about as stylish as they come. bueno!
