What's the dimensions in that? Is it the displacement tail causing the bouncing? Some nice waves, Roy.

My wife and I just watched the video.

After too long looking at the fin she said;

'C'mon, get on with it'.

We then got to the footage which was nice.

She said;

'Has he got a white beard ?'

I said;

'It's grey. He's old'.

She said;

'Right, he hasn't got a gut or anything. Goes alright for an old bloke. Nice waves too'.

I said;

'Yes. But does look like captain risky' as someone else mentioned.

We then got to the fin shot again.

She said;

'What the **** is that' ?

I said;

'The fin'

She said;

'No. The wood thing on the screen'.

I said;

'Yep. That's the fin'.

She said;

'That's just ****en weird. Next video....'

Lol!

The tail mitigates the effect of the bouncing, which is caused by the lumps and chop combined with the huge area of the board. She's a major handful in those conditions, I was expecting waist high and clean, all's well that ends well though apart from me mismanaging that pesky lump on wave no.1. Onshores have their uses though only 6 of us out.

Easy on a shortie from mid to high tide - just use jump rock at the top n make sure you time it well . If you feeling like you do not want to play with the rocks you can always go out from the boat ramp at the bottom. Big ups to Roy as this would be a truckload easier and no issue with that big beast to paddle back up the point. Fun fun fun wave that one. Spent 4 years living there whilst at Uni first time round. Sensational place. Shame so busy these days like so many other places.

Hey Roy that first vid is a cracker. That board of yours gets some good speed up. Nice one.

Hi Ted, when was that? I lived on the point from '88 to '92.
The last video was at Whale bay so no boat ramp option, and no 'jump rock' as it was below half tide. Being a Monday and onshore there were only 6 to 8 of us out. The vibe is nicer than it was in the nasty old '80's too.

Hello Roy,enjoyed your clips but somehow this form of surfing is what I call surfing.

Have you got a clip that shows some turns?if so I'd love to see it.

It's called trimming. It's a pretty important skill in surfing and generally uses timeless, elegant lines. I think it's something long boarders use a lot isn't it?

Not sure about that chop hop 360 thing though. More skilful than I ever will be, but it's bloody ugly.

Trimming is to get from point A to B on a wave,standing up trimming is boring and for folks with fk all skill,the first thing one learns.

Terry Fitzgerald at Jbay?

Anyone nose riding?

People riding Chopes, Pipe or Gnaraloo? That's all about trimming.

Trimming is fun and good trim is something many people lack having been raised on multi fin high performance surfboards.

Plus Roy's vids are a different surfer, on a completely different wave, on a completely different board. not everyone has the skill or youth for HP surfing, not every board is capable of that. What do you think BigSpazz will be doing on his new 12'? Trimming. Or what Mick is doing when he is linking sections in his vids when his local is small? Trimming. I don't see you telling them they have no skill and post better boards or vids.

Ignore the haters, Roy, and keep 'em coming. Lots of people appreciate your different approach to board design, and I, like others, enjoy watching you and your boards on waves.

Macaha:

I've had countless sessions at that spot as a singlefin shortboarder, from as small as it gets to as big as it gets and everything in between. I built a million dollar house right on the point and rode there every day it broke. I hassled, and caught every wave I could, got a bad reputation for it and had the place wired to a T.

So now, I ride it again on a board 4 feet longer, 7 inches wider and 30 pounds heavier. Three waves and I'm good.

Which is better I can't say, but if you think it's easy handling that beast through the chop at speed then feel free to show us how.

Possibly.

Plenty of other fellows out thereare following the politically correct surfing ways which you are recommending, so I wonder why you need to try to make me into one of them... since there's no shortage of them already.
