Ted the Kiwi said...Has anyone ridden one of these ? What do you think of them? My blank arrives today and the shaping will begin as soon as I get some free time. I have got hold of a Model T that I can use as a basis for my first shape. I was thinking of putting a pin tail on it though. Any thought most appreciated. I am not trying to re-invent the world here as it is my first effort.
Its going to be 9'4" by 23 * 3 with 6 ounce on the bottom and 2 * on the top - any ideas re fins for this new beast? I have the art work sorted - am going to attempt a resin tint first time around - have watched hours of youtube and reckon I can pull it off -hopefully

First time board shaper so I blame obct, Sharpie and LFish for inspiring me to build my own. Heaven knows what it will turn out like. Fingers crossed but starting to get pretty excited now. The GF will hate the mess in the garage I am thinking

This is the bit where you start to appreciate how skillful the people that make your boards are and why they are indeed way too cheap......
But, for what it's worth, my tips would be:
- Buy a pre-shaped machine cut blank and get some practice finishing the fine tuning parts of the board from a mostly there perspective.
- Get some decent lights set up before you start. Using the lights is most of the way the secrets to making the board work. You can see the lines on the edges, dips etc.
- Use Solarez or Solcat to glass the board. You will need as much time as you can get to make it neat, especially on a big board like that. Will also have less fumes for your missus. A beautiful invention, get your laps down, nice and flat all wet out etc and then put in the sun. Whammo....
Have fun mate!
