I am thoroughly enjoying having the additional bit of weaponry in the arsenal....I am finding I am surfing a lot more than I used to and having lots more fun. Just this week I have had 4 surfs that I would not normally have had if I just had my short board in the car and 2 that I could have taken the shortie out for but most probably would not have bothered....it seems to me like you get so many more surf options with a big hunk of foam in the quiver than not. Ok yes I am clearly a slow learner but at least I have finally seen the light..........no point stopping though - guess its time to make myself an 11 footer next I must say I am looking forward to some decent swell so the shorties can come back out but in the meantime I am more than happy. No wonder the beergarden is such a happy place.

Ted, which Longboard Board Position would like? Treasurer, Secretary, Barman, Recruiter, Selector,...

Mac has changed positions on the board to CLO- Chief Longboard-buying Officer.

yes perhaps I am but not a fulltime one - just a part timer at this stage and this is unlikely to change in the near future but I am enjoying the part time gig it must be said.

TB - the 11 or 12er would be fun but not really sure that its required just yet....the 9'2" seems to catch anything as it is.

I was a slow learner as well and took me to my forties to see the light.

Good to mix it up but when you have a run of small swell and then get the chance to jump back on the short board when there is some size in the swell it does feel like a tooth pick after 9 feet of paddle power.

My brother is thinking about joining the Longboarding Crew now too... after only ever really riding shortboards and funboards, and a long drawn out Fish Experiment...

He's asking me about the MR 9'6 SUP, as he's a big MR fan... But I told him to do a little time on Longboards first... So I'm going to flick him my 9'1 Billy Hamilton Hyperform - Tufflite.

You've had a bad week haven't you sport ?
Started out stirring up a mum at a kids birthday and doing your load over an ugly surfboard because it has an M stuck on it.

Let's spread the longboard stoke. I am 34 now and started longboarding at 30. Have surfed a shorty for probably 20 years. I agree owning a lOngboard opens doors and gives you more surf time. I find I now am scanning the forecast for glassy waist high days whereas before I wouldn't even bother. And waves that are a little to fat and slow for a shorty can be super fun on a longboard.
At the moment own a FireWire longboard which is fun, but a mctavish purchase is imminent.
It's amazing the glide a longboard can give. If you pick the right line on a wave it can just fly, even when it's small.
Rant over.
