I'm able to tolerate most of winters surfing privations, but the one I hate the most is when I forget to dry out the speedos from the day before and I have to put them on when they're temp is close to absolute zero .

I'll never understand how a pair of African Huts can remain dormant for so many years and suddenly spring to life protesting their dislike of a hammock made from an icepak.

I swear, one day as I'm hobbling down the to surf in winter, I'll have someone say "hey look at that old dude, he's got 3 Adams apples!!"

Also hate when your toes go numb, and you fold you big toe over when you spring up - that hurts like hell! That and the occasional calf cramp - the ones that you have to come in from and feel bruised for days...nasty.

Yep not fun OB , my solution has been to double up on everything so I normally have dry gear - so 2 wetsuits , 2 booties , 2 pairs of gloves , 2 hoods . Don't wear the speedos so no need for 2 of them .

My pet hate is forgetting to take a towel makes for a long wet cold drive home in winter .

GPA and Chrispy you need to invest in some booties There are some good ones out there now I prefer the split toes feels more natural . Does take a few sessions though to adjust from going bare feet to booties . bit like going in running in bare feet to going running in joggers

I thought OB would of been a free baller... I hate wearing anything under them, rashies included, they seem to give more rashes than the save.

That's a serious list there tassie... Are you in all stuff yet?

Getting cold here now last few mornings have been quite brisk

Damn you OB you jinxed me . Open the drawer in the back of the ute this arv and greeted by 2 sets of wet wetsuits still covered in sand . 1 st time I ve done that in about 6 months .

Still not wearing the hood SP I don't wear them unless I have to . For me they take away sound and some of my vision , and I hate not being able to hear what is going on around me .

i beg to to disagree about this. i free ball on dry land(the girl hates it) yet in the water the old sluggo's rule supreme. i dont get seam rash from boardies and when its the wettie season i dont have to do superman moves to avoid shocking the public with my frozen dick doing looking like a disfigured mini spring role. go the african hut hammock forever

I wAs pretty warm in the water today too Mac in my 4/3 suit , with thermal rashy / gel pack warmer , booties and gloves . But no speedos .

Had a bloke in a van loaded with boards watch me for about an hour then drive away today. I don't get it . If you go to the trouble of driving to the beach with your boards why not get in . He could have caught a few in the time he was sitting there then left if he wasn't happy . At least that would have been a couple more waves then he ended up catching .

Like the bit about the shark - haven't seen a shark in the line up for about 20 years hope it stays that way .

Yep I understand, however that guy was in fact your new best buddy, yes Billboard the old fussy dog loving dude is in town.

Its ok,best thing is not to EVER look him in the eye, this really ticks him off, some issue he has with mirrors and other sick weird sh-t he is into, best to stay clear.

PS the gold coast is a much safer place with him gone

have to agree Mac ok in the water at the moment.
Shouldn't have to worry about a Spring suit until at least the 3rd State of Origin
But the dawn patrol run across the car park is like walking on nails.
Really feel for you guys down south

Your post makes me feel a little better about myself

I though I was the only person in the world who does that toe folding trick.

I'm a dedicated freeballer all summer long in my short-john, but come winter, the boys tell me they're happier with that extra bit of snugness

You never argue with the boys

Stop showing off Queenslanders - poor old TB and Gizzie when they read this. They probably only put away there 3/2 steamers in Mar so they could break out the 4/3's...and now its almost June they will have their booties. hats and gloves on.

Ahhhhhhh Still think free ball is the way despite the cold.
