By the way Tassiedevel, welcome to the longboard room. Looks like fun.

What side of the island are you on anyway. There are some good waves around Tassie if you know what you are looking for. I've surfed a bit down there, and always had fun, and found waves in places I wasn't expecting... Cold water but! A big volume malibu would help keep you out of the water though. Black wettie heats up a fraction when the sun comes out!

Did you see this beast of mine?
I'll get back to all of you guys once I have a go in small waves... It's only about a 3/4 inch narrower at the side bite fins than my McTavish Fireball EvoII.

Nice board Simondo . Is that a custom made McTavish .
I am on the NorthWest Coast lucky for me I have a nice reef break in front of my office and a couple of nice point breaks within about 5 minutes drive . Unfortunately we generally need a northerly wind to get the swell going and at the moment it's all from the south / southwest .
Your right the water does get cold . Got to love that 1 st cold water flush through the wetty but after that it isn't too bad especially with the gel packs providing some extra heat .
Must be a bit cold where you are too though at the moment ?

Was wondering about the mid deck change in colour long as I can get a few months out of it I will be happy .
Pictures don't really show it but about a quarter of the way up the board from the tail there is a deep compression on the top of the board not quite all the way through . I have bogged it up with wax do you reckon I should fill it with resin or leave it as is ?
Also any tricks to getting the black stain off the bottom in case I get keen

For the black stain.
Tooth paste a scourer and a little bit of water should clean it up, if that doesn't work try bug and tar remover that youd use on a car, if that doesnt work try acetone.

Some of the citrus based stuff works alright to.

The black marks on the bottom are common in cooler climates... The soft / cold water waxes are much tackier, and stick onto your hands/wettie, etc, and slowly migrate to the other side of the board, particularly where you carry the board under your arm... You end up with wax under your wet suit arms, and wax residue ends up on the bottom of the board.

So basically, it is most likely just dirty old wax and wax residue... Very easy to get off. Warm water and a clean rag should get the bulk of it off... Maybe add a tiny bit of dish washing detergent for the final wipe. Rinse well, so the board is not slippery!

My two boards above aren't old enough for any wax residue! The one on the left hasn't even been waxed in those photos!

Use wax and grease remover (prepsol/dulux) perfect for cleaning boards

nice looking board - just wondered if those dims are correct - 9 ft x 2 inches x 22.5 inches - 2 inches thick seems pretty thin to me.

Looks like you will be having some fun sessions on that one going forward.

Your right Ted should be 2.25 inches . I am only a little skinny prick so don't need much floatation . Being my 1 st longboard I was a bit reluctant to get one too thick , too wide or too long . Even thought the 9 foot was probably a bit long till I got to ride it .

Ha ha , the couple of times I have had the board out in 3 -4 foot swell it has blown me away .
Not sure though whether that is because this is a good board or it's because it's my 1st go at using a longboard rather than a short board . Will have to have a play with some other boards and see how they go .
