I have it at last! No more fisheyes, no more blush, no more sanding between coats and waiting until it's cured enough to sand...

In a word: xylene.

It's otherwise known as additive F (Resin Research) which we can't buy here, but I finally tracked down some straight xylene and it works like a charm.

I used to smoke that stuff when I was a boy. Mix it with some baccy and it goes well.

only trouble is that it gives you a really bad headache.

Regarding the fisheyes it reduces surface tension. As far as the blush goes blush is a reaction which the catalyst has with moisture and/or CO2 in the atmosphere. The xylene makes a vapour which prevents air from contacting the surface so no blush. I think that it does speed up the reaction time a bit too.

AND you can buy it for $18.79 a tin at Bunnings, sniff away day-trippers

The Bunnings stuff is mixed with benzene. A small percentage of ethyl benzene is often present with xylene but it sounds like the Bunnings product is deliberately mixed with benzene. I avoided it in favour of 'straight' xylene but who knows it might work just as well with the benzene.
