We've sort of done this topic... But I think (for my money) that Joel Tudor is the BEST! Just easy to watch! Has all the moves...

Best flowing surfers of all time...
Tom Curran, Kelly Slater, Michael Peterson, and Joel Tudor... Edit: and Parko!

There's a raft of other great surfers, but they have a more brutal attack, like;
Tom Carrol, Andy Irons, etc...

(IMO! - tell us your opinion! )

Tudor for sure but only traditional style logging Joel's opinion on high performance long boarding is pretty strong so in that discipline I'm leaning towards Harley I or Taylor jennson.. Parko cops plenty of flak but man he surfs so smooth cat. Always enjoyed watching Andy surf so much aggression modern power surfing!!

How to surf,?

Lesson one.

Watch Tudor. Piles and Piles of style.

And Ash IMO Tudor is more HP than people think. Lip whacks and floaters aren't traditional logging moves just cause he does them on a 10 ft log.
Same as Tyler Hatz, he rides old boards drops the Knee, walks it but has the ability to just whack the shizz out of it vert ish. To me that is style.. Who doesn't want to hit the lip when it is there and boards have developed to be able to.

I don't go for the whole HP Vs traditional thing I think its a massive wank a LB is a LB some have narrower noses, lower rails, samller tails, edge in the rail etc etc but they are basically the same beast. Good surfing is good surfing and IMO that means Walk it or **** off....

LB riding should be all about the art of trim IMO . Good LB riding IMO all starts from having that natural glide and flow and that doesn't come from jumping to your feet and standing there. Its as bad as riding a shorty and just getting to your feet and going across the wave.

People that just stand at the back and try and short board surf it aren't longboarding they are just riding a board with a lot of volume.
Laziness or lack of fitness should never be a reason to ride a LB. I firkin hate guys that just use it as a wave catching tool.

I could have a massive rant but I wont...

I think: Joel Tudor + Longboard = Kelly Slater + Shortboard

PS - We can add Rob Machado to smooth style surfers above!

watching that Tudor clip, I really like how he doesn't oversurf the wave, he lets the wave dictate what he does. There is no pumping for speed, hopping to attempt to generate pace, just lets the wave do its thing and has the confidence in his board to catch up and do what it needs to do. It looks casual, also intermediate surfing, but knowing that the guy could tear the crap out of it and doesn't gives it a certain style
