Very sad state of affairs down that way. TD is camping at his new plot over on the West coast so he should be ok at the minute from what I understand. A lot of people waking up today with some big challenges ahead. Thank goodness loss of life has not been one of them.

Hi guys - ive been up in Launceston for a few days and no real dramas here but down south things are grim. Riverider got evacuated on friday night I think but I believe his home is ok. Where the boys surf down the Tasman peninsular theyve been smashed and over 100 homes lost.
On a lighter side - I took friday off and at lunchtime my boss called me to say the AC had shlt itself at work and it was 43 degrees in the shop !! - and we are inside a shopping centre !

Thanks for the thoughts fellas just arrived back in civilization .

Did get a bit hairy over the weekend big fire just to the east of us , no phone reception and pretty crappy radio reception so no real idea what was going on .

Some friends dropped in and they were told on the way in we were supposed to be in a ready to act state , eg , pack the cars and be ready to scramble , so did that and continued on . Worst part couldn't drink in case we had to drive out in a hurry

Hell of a mess down south , Tarrana was being evacuated this afternoon so iT is still on the go .In coastal parts of Tassie a lot of people have weekend shacks so the population is pretty transient which is making it difficult to know if people are missing or not .

Luckily for us up north we miss most of the extremes in temperature . Got to a stinking hot 29 degrees on Friday . going to be around the 25 rest of the week

Have to feel for the poor buggers down south . Thought it must have been getting close to where BB hangs out .Good to hear you made it through OK Bill .

Hey tassie, things are different down south, after we packed up the car we got on the beers and watched the hills burn round us until the police turned up and told us it was time to move out, those guys were just to flat out to have time to bretho anyone.

Our place is ok thanks, that was a house about 1k up the river we live on, the firies did an amazing job saving the houses round here, you wonder how they do it when it's so hot you just want to sit some where cool, when those guys are working flat out in temptures at 50C+, the good thing down here where we live is no one is more than 500m from the water, so when the **** hits the fan you know you have somewhere to run to.

Sounds like the sort of argument my WA mates would make!

Glad to hear everything is ok with you as well RR. And a big welcome back to the Greenroom!!! As Mac would say - leave your paddle at the door though and keep that single fin action happening

Who the farrrrrk is red thumbing Pup for this post? You should pull ya head in you goose. Man up and disagree in writing and put ya name to it - stop hiding behind the thumbs. I thought Pups post was great and on the money.....and I would think most people who frequent the greenroom would feel the same. The Tassie crew are doing it tough right now and how could we ever forget the 173 poor soles who lost their lives or the more than 2,000 homes that were burnt in the Black Saturday fires?\ Several firefighters lost there lives that day trying to help others. Every year firefighters lose their lives trying to help others.....one day that maybe you. Think about it.

And I didn't mention the worst of it ..... and it's the crux of humanity itself
Still 100 people unaccounted for - cannot begin to fathom at all how their families are coping coz I know I wouldn't be , I'd be an absolute & total mess with worry

life still goes on though, couple of pics of the beach this morning, thought the salt water had a bit of sting to the eyes this morning, but then realised it was the smoke, a bit of coughing going on to.

Tassie is a lovely place!
I've been over there maybe 10 times.
Have you guys seen the waves that Kyron (666 forum) has scored in Tassie! Wow!

Another secret spot I am happy to disclose...;
Drive to Cockle Creek, walk south for about 7km(?), and you'll find some lovely waves in summer when the wind is from the north. Free camping too! But bring carry everything you need... Water is provided via some creeks.

South Cape Bay...

If she does burn it was a fun 2 weeks over Xmas , bugger , bugger , bugger . Word is at this stage she it is still standing but obviously we can't get near the place .

At least we are all back home safe and sound unlike the poor buggers down south that lost everything

Stink news TD - but as SP said its much better that you are home safe......I just heard it on the radio on the way home and wondered if that part of the NW which was in trouble meant you were exposed......Hope all is ok.

Like that name Puphahaha , if it's still standing after this will have to get a plaque made up with that one and hang it at the front gate

Good news for us so far we aren't burnt out , apparently 2 other families weren't so lucky and lost their beach shacks overnight . If we get through today we will be right .

Cold change coming through tomorrow with highland snow , only in Tasmania

There will be a few green politicians ducking for cover after this . The lack of back burning and general mismanagement of forestry is playing a big part in keeping these fires going
