Considering a trip to Tassie or NZ Jan next year, preferably with a few waves thrown into the deal. Old m8 and missed KiwiTeddy lost in action figure recommended Easter but hey most of the Southern hemisphere is good at Easter. We're school holiday locked, Jan offers more than 2 weeks window for us...thinking NZ could tie in with another future trip to Hawaii after 2020. Leaning towards Tassie but only if there's a good chance of waves. Not fussy but at least chest high, preferably just a 2 board trip 6 foot funboard and a 9 foot longboard.

Worth a trip in Jan for surfing decent waves?
2 or 3 weeks to have a good allround look around Tassie?
How long do ya reckon we should spend in each area with respect to surf frequency plus non surfing entertainment, I mean like best places for a few waves plus some cool stuff like snorkling, swimming, hiking, generally sight seeing for the missus???

All input appreciated and please go the personal message route if sharing local knowledge not found on the interwebz and I'll know to do the same later (its found on the top right of this message next to the flag)...cheers

Hey Mic,

Surfs fun on the beach breaks at that time of year, East coast, Peninsula and Bruny Island are best area's and all have plenty of stuff for the family to enjoy.

If you only have 3 weeks i'd just do a week hobart and surrounds and then a few days for then peninsula/east coast/bruny. i'd pass on the west coast unless you can snag an extra week into the deal.

Give us a buzz if you want more deets, .

Cheers

True nothing worse than seeing couples eating out crouched down looking at their phones instead of talking to each other,

Yep Mick agree with all Andy has posted . Jan / Feb best time of the year in tassie - long days , warm water , not too much wind . They run the tassie SuP state comps on the peninsula for the simple reason there are so many breaks facing different directions they can guarantee a good wave somewhere within driving distance . They use the Lufra motel eaglehawk neck as the base - overlooks the break at eaglehawk neck so magic spot .West coast lots more driving and lots of bush - but some great deserted waves . Northwest - have to time it right , East coast beautiful beaches - but pays to have some local knowledge .
Don't spread the word too much - too many bloody tourists getting around at that time of the year
if you are heading down park beach , peninsula way message Riverrider ( Dave ) or 2 MT ( Tony ) - both have surfed those beaches for around half a century and both very helpful .

Should add went to NZ in February last year - some magic beaches pretty much deserted . Dunedin great surf break right in town .
Should also add even though it's warm here for us at this time of the year - had tourists in the shop last week from NSW Central Coast and Broken hill that reckon they were freezing - had the heaters in the caravans cranked .Pay to pack some sort of wetsuit depending on what water temps you are used to

Parents at parks are the worst, I cant imagine there's anything in those phones that will provide as much joy as watching your kids play and be happy but 90% of them are doing exactly that...
