Looking to get a scorpion (surftech most likely). Anybody ridden or have one?

Just looking for info/feedback

Theres a guy here who rides one in tufflite and really likes it. I haven't ridden one but have ridden something very similar and they are very versatile boards. If you can splash out a little extra get a glass board.I'm sure Jas had one .

Too right SMH, Jasdeking (aka The Scorpion King) will swoop on this like a seagull on a chip as soon as he's back from enforcing the Noosa lineup.
PS... I've heard good things about them Kaneando - they sound like a good short-to-mid length fun board for all conditions. Jason did have one for sale, about 7' I think. It was a beauty. Not sure if he still has it or not. Cheers.

To add confusion, have a think about this one... It would be fun in small stuff, but would also handle a wide range of conditions... Probably more versatile than a Scorp... ?

Got a 6'4" glass. Love it on a clean wave. Big nose to try and dive tho. Lots of volume and picks them up early. Ride ut with k2.1 quads. Was an expensive board and wouldnt buy another one but no regrets - u gotta give everything a go.

i really liked the one i was riding....at the time i really wanted to buy one i liked it that much. im so glad i didnt now. there are way more versatile boards than that,and one is not a ****ing tracker either grom man cuttlefish owned one and raved about it,so he might post his thoughts on them. me,i would look for something better.

I think a Tracker template is a good start... Add modern rails, your preferred bottom contours, etc...

Tracker is good for points - my bother has one however he lives in Bali and uses it a fair.

i did sell it to my sister in law ( but she may sell it some time ?? so just ask anytime and i can check... i think she should be on something bigger for some real small stuff so ask me anytime )

as for the line up.. mate hardly the enforcer ... too funny.. i did feel bad about that lip i gave... wont happen again for sure .. i love this sport to much.. just had a cranky day...xmas and shiz

oh and yeh did just get back from noosa ... got in mid tide ... too soft would have been nice at 5am :(

I have been working on a similar design to the scorpion for the last twenty years...in my opinion... Donald made the bottom too soft, so the board is a bit sluggish...a mate of mine had one and had mixed feelings about it, could not get it to draw long turns when needed, I always thought it was the rolly bottom shape...I have been using concaves on all of mine and it has been a consitent seller for the past twenty years...dont be afraid of the pintail in beach or point breaks it works well....Bobs doing one called the Sumo that looks similar as well...whats good about that planshape is it can be reduced down or blown up...I have models from 5"6" to 10' that incorporate that plan.

Hey mate, id be surfing it on a 2-4 ft point break, and ocassionaly and 1-2 ft beachies??

I've been riding a 6'8" in tuflite for over a year and had it out in all wave sizes and conditions.
My very first surf on it was on the biggest day of the past year (6-8') when I rolled up to my local point after work with it as the only board I had in the car.
Surprisingly it handled it all well.
I run it as a quad with either H2 fronts and Scarfini hx2 rears or DVS keels.
i've tried many different fin combinations in it. Everything from bonzer side runners and centre to single fin and stacks of different quad and even twin plus trailer.
The quads worked best for me.
The single wasn't too bad but as noted the light V in the bottom isn't a fast bottom and if it had a more modern bottom (concave/s) it could be a faster board in smaller, less powerful waves.
When riding gutless waves to get across full sections you can move forward and trim across but it won't respond so well to being turned at low speed where the tail will sink.
It does have really nice rails that allow it to go on rail easily and the pin tail holds the tail in while doing wrap around cutbacks.
The board can be pushed into some pretty vertical turns and it will handle a steep beachbreak drop since you'll be paddling in nice and early.
The wide nose has not been a hinderance but stiff offshores will be its enemy.
I'm 6'1" and hover between 90-94 kgs and find it floats me well with no feeling of corkiness that has been a long running criticism of tuflites.
A mate of mine who weighs lower 70's kg wise has ridden it in 2' Snapper and caught a stack of waves and really enjoyed it as mid-lengther for him.
I chose a Surftech since I wanted a light board that would be less tiring to paddle when surfing on long points.
Also hard to ding and with its water resistant foam I would be able to tape any dings form mishaps and keep on surfing (unlike standard eps boards).
I look it as a desert island board. Versatile because you can trim forward on it and then step back and really throw it around.
It's an easy to surf board that doesn't make you look bad through any weird characteristics.
It's not as fast as concaved bottom boards but it has enough speed for most waves.
I had heard that the Surftech ones wouldn't be available anymore due to royalty stuff with Donalds's family.
If I was having a local shaper make me one like it I'd ask for one with quad plugs and a double concave bottom.
You'd have a great time on one surfing 2-4 point waves (but hey most boards aren't bad in these kind of waves) but 1-2' beachies may be ok for you but I'd rather have my 5'9" or 7'6" in the small stuff.
