Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has tried the Takayama Scorpion? I really like the look of them but am a little unsure what size. Im currently riding a 6'4 McTavish Bobsled (majority of the time) and a 9'1 McTavish Bobsled. I'm 5'10, and 85kg and I was thinking possibly a 6'8 to 7'0. Any suggestions???

Cheers,

Josh

If you follow Asea's philosophy... I quote, "I just ride them all!"... Then you should have a go at a Tak Scorp!

If you live near a big surf shop, you might get lucky, and get to "try before you buy"... If they have a 2nd hand Scorp...
But chances are you will have to either buy a 2nd one, or a new one...

They have a pretty "radical" template... I haven't ridden on, but the two Irish guys my Maldives Boat Trip both surfed it over there... They didn't like it... Unfortunately.

If I was you, try and get a cheap 2nd hand one... Rather than spending big money on a new one. If you don't like it, you haven't really lost anything... If you love it, it's a win!

Thanks Simondo,

I have recently test rode a McTavish Sumo in both a 6'4 and 6'8. The 6'4 rode very similar to the Bobsled and the 6'8 has a bit more volume so paddled a lot better and was easier to catch waves. The only problem it was difficult to turn.

Your right, it would be good to test ride a Scorpion to see how it compares to the Sumo.

Thanks again for the response.

I have ridden both and I like the Scorpion more, both were good for different reasons. The Scorpion was like a small longboard,in the sense you can(well i sorta did shuffle my)get to the nose. I like the fact you can surf the tak as multiple fin configurations. I like it as a quad.

The sumo.was a bit more forgiving with a late take off with the flipped nose. Yet the tak will get you in a wave way earlier so the tak wins again.

In saying all that,I always was keen to Buy both boards.....now I would not buy either. I would buy a egg shape over the both of them for small wave fu n and for how you surf them....as in a small longboard or buttons type fun machine.

On the argument that they will go good in bigger surf, well maybe, but there are far more shapes in bigger surf I would rather then those two.

Out off the two I would buy the tak...after my brief love affair was over....I think they are a gimmick shape
