I'm not able to ride the shorty anymore but the transition from the sup to the longboard is something that I find tricky still if I change on the same day or the next day. On the sup you can really turn late and lazy and just reach out with the paddle to stop yourself falling in and to assist in dragging the board through the turn whereas if I try the same thing later that day on the mal - SPLASH

What I am now doing on a mal that I never did previously is to use my arms more when I turn, which gives me so much more balance and I actually feel like I am surfing better and more fluidly (is that a word). Actually come to mention it - thats what I used to notice jumping from mal to shorty - I used to use my arms more on the shorty - I think to assist with balance and to create a bit of swing when turning. The other big thing I noticed from mal to shorty was that I had a tendency to stand way too upright and centred on the shortboard and found myself having to make adjustments with my stance when setting up turns which quite often upset the flow of the board and I would either bog or overbalance the board and just fall forward

Its funny - on a shortboard and a sup I am very much a front foot surfer but on a mal - backfoot

maybe I am just a little retarded (sorry if that word offends anyone - sorry sup'ers

)
