Surfed this a few times over the years. Not the best wave but a very sad end for one. RIP. It surprises me at times that we do not have more incidents like this.

A MAN drowned off Tamarama Beach after surfing at Bronte this afternoon.

Police suspect he was washed up shore and was found on rocks at Tamarama at around 2pm this afternoon. The man, believed to be aged in his 40s, was pulled out of the water and onto the sand by two other surfers before paramedics and ambulance helicopters arrived minutes after, police said.Ambulance responded to reports a man had suffered injuries between Tamramma and Bronte beach around 2pm."Unfortunately the man has been confirmed deceased," an ambulance spokeswoman said."The patient's been declared deceased at the scene."Ambulance said the man suffered a head injury before a "possible drowning."

Paramedics performed CPR for an extended period of time before an ambulance helicopter arrived but sometime after he was declared dead."He suffered a head injury... it looks like a possible drowning."It was not treated as suspicious," police said.Investigations are continuing and a report will be prepared for the coroner.A surfer said he saw people screaming down to the water pointing at a man who needed help."I looked at him and he was already struggling on his board," he said."He was covered in scratches, he must have tried to jump off a rock.Another witness expressed his outrage indicating there should have been a life saver watching."Why don't they have someone down there," he said."He separated from his board, his foot strap was loose and then he just went flying into the rocks."The man said the surfer was waving his hands in the air and then got pushed around by the current into the rocks.

What is a fun sport/love to us can turn pretty ugly quickly. I know I was pretty lucky, and even last last week I thought I broke my shin.
Then last year the peep.from the boardroom left the lineup after be banged his head in tiny surf at Byron. In fact it was that small none of us surfed. Life is strange,I gave up analysing it,I just am thankful I'm still a part of it.

Take care mate and may your journey be safe.....my first wave tomorrow is for you
