G'day guys,

I know your going to get stuck in here for asking this question but just here me out.

I live in Broome WA - I surf waste waves once every 2/3 weeks maybe head waves every 8 weeks. Average ride length is 3-5 seconds. I'll surf knee waves every week. Paddle sideways stand up maybe get a turn or to the nose. Surfing sessions due to the tide an hour. Twice a year a cyclone swell comes through just over head.

Looking to buy a longboard but you can't buy boards up here so have to go online - http://www.thesurfboardwarehouse.com.au/browse/longboards/. Looking at the vintage log performance 9ft at $465 or the 9'2 vintage log $700 heavier glassing. I am not keen on the vintage log because it obviously starts to push the price up to getting a better board. Do you think the cheap one would suit my needs until I one day move to anew

location or could anyone recommend a place to buy online.

Cheers

How bout, The Glide – Bamboo Slide 9'6. @ $520...if your just looking for a cheap bang for buck board. Judging by pics on a website & its descriptions. Given that choice, thats the one I'd go for, for durability hoping it doesn't delaminate like other cheapies. But the websites pretty mainstream, so they might look after you.

I can certainly understand where your coming from, posting from such a remote location. Gotta be the West Oz surfing fringeline up there

If price is everything go for it but don't be surprised the new board looks like a hail damaged car within weeks, just saying.

My advice is get in contact with Steve from Clearwater surfboards he has a store in WA and for an extra 500 or 600 you'll have
a top quality Australian made custom board, made by a guy who knows your conditions better than most.Yes an extra 5
or 6 but if you buy the other thing you'll be looking at off loading it in a very short time frame, spend today save tomorrow.

Gotta agree with mac here, I've had years of buying "pop outs" because they seem like affordable value, and they're ok but pretty soon you'll be like "I need something better" . My advice, buy one custom, when you place your feet and ride that 1st wave you'll know you made the right call. There's a real soul to surfing a hand crafted beauty and sdr is soo helpful. My surfing progressed more in one surf on the custom than years on the others.... Either that, or I'd get searching for a good 2nd hand hand made Mct or something.

I work in marketing, don't get sucked in by the marketing

Cheers guys will make an enquiry with Steve. Not sure about an epoxy board - durability yes but not sure how they would ride being too buoyant.

I have emailed Steve a few times, I would 100 % go with him. KNows his boards and WA waves very well. Also a super nice guy.

May have a used option for you as well.

I find the epoxy products have pros and cons on an lb. Great for reducing the weight of the beast but not great for hold when nose riding and no good if there's any chop, the glass will push through MUCH better

About every 6-8 weeks they spot one and close the beach for a day. I get a bit nervous a bit up the coast when the water is a bit murky. All part of the adventure. That was taken right at the rocks which can get a good little ride on the high tide.

Broome does actually get surprisingly ok now and than. Twas a full moon that day with waist to chest funnels, I didn't know if it was real I was as shocked as everyone. The dusty boards covered from weeks in gnarloo were released from there covers and unstrapped. The water was warm and the banks were amazing. Never again did I see it good but that day will be talked about for generations. Only to be made into a full length Taylor Steele production in 2043. Anyway I digress board selection ? get a pop out. custom boards have no soul and how do you know its going to work. those chinese boards are proven reliable performers finely crafted by locals who have surfed and shaped boards all their lives

I get what your saying but what I was really asking is with what I am surfing (wave quality, length) would I really notice the difference.

What would the Chinese know about craftsmanship , you are joking . How many Japanese F1 drivers winning F1 and bike riders winning super bikes . But they know how to make cars and bikes.do Australians now think like Americans and only we know or do it better.

I'll sit on the fence here...

Surfboard Warehouse Pop Outs - they look pretty good actually... But as per warnings above, they "might" damage easily, and might not last quite as long as an Australian Custom Board... The 9'0 / 9'1 High Performance Models would be the ones to go for... Including High Performance Logs with Inlays... For the Broome beach break conditions, as described, I would stay away from the Traditional Logs...

Customs - yes also a very good option... If you shop wisely, you can also pick up some very good 2nd hand longboards...

If Indo people had moneys to buy good blanks and glass, we could make good surfboards, our country poor to aussie. Like most Asians but be ours we don't live Gold Coast and not pro don't meen we , not good craftsman. Always comes down to money, it's sad but that's our life and we love it.
