These weather forecasters have the best job , can be completely wrong and still get paid

Yesterday surf supposed to peak at about 90 cm at 9 a.m. So jump out of bed on my day off and head to the beach , flat as .

Yesterday afternoon supposed to be about 1-2 foot so take the young bloke down for a play and don't bother taking my board . Get there surf 4 foot with bigger sets rolling through .making for a quick trip home to change the gear .

Frustrating

geez I'd gratefully take that last bit Taz we've had shizz , stormy as all week they got it dead smack on the coin over here

yes i agree, wouldn't invest in surf forecast shares ha

because they do not even go and check. sadly ch 9 up here get it pretty right,they are at the beach and they have clear footage of people surfing. i love going down and they say its 1ft,get there glass and shoulder high...keep getting it wrong guys oh they were right here today

I tend to use the forecasts as an indication of increasing or decreasing swell rather than believe the forecast to the nearest 10 cm.......

Then I tend to watch the wave buoys and live weather from any number of places.....seabreeze, BoM "recent weather observations etc.....and cross check with historical conditions during previous good sessions.......

The Sunshine Coast (where I mainly surf) tends to get only brief attention in the forecasts on swellnet, coastalwatch etc which makes it a bit interesting.....

Tassie I use these guys to see what the period is, direction and size. Not sure what yr Tassie equiv would be though. Because its a live reading I can look up and down the coast and see the swell marching up or down the coast and make a rough calculation to when it should start to hit.

I find seabreeze pretty good for winds a few days out. The new BOM site that SP posted is also pretty good. I like that one a lot. I look at the synoptic most days as well- make sure you find one that doesn't just show in and around the Aust coast....you want to be looking further afield.

Last night surf rating 4 was supposed to be 1.5 meters of swell . Got there flat .
Not that it mattered ended up working
