Hi peoples,
Just wondering if anyone has ridden a Sunova Longboard Pro.
The description sounds about right for me to surf like a shorter board with less nose riding. Unless I feel like it.
Would like it for various conditions from small to just overhead. But still want it to turn fairly easily. Mainly carves & cutbacks. Not into boom crash opera surfing. Too old for that.
But also need it to get onto waves early. But not like a log.
Also I want it strong & long lasting like my other 3 Sunovas. Dingless so far.

Jaskson close doesn't seem to have a problem with his wood pop outs Andy.
Personally these days im more inclined to pay for what i can see.
I remember ted saying the same thing a while ago

I also remember seeing some data about a higher percentage of unhappy custom customers then happy ones.

I get both.

Yeah sure, there's a market for these things but really, a popout China job LB is worth about $1000 tops if you ask me... less even... The margin they would be making at that price is HUGE!!!

I just think if your dropping that sorta coin you can talk to a shaper and get something really dialed into where your at that will last just as long...

Original poster. They look good, bloke around here rips on one of them.

I remember reading ages ago, they are basically constructed the same as the Firewire boards but with less hype/marketing.

One of the co-founders was involved with Firewire and the whole "Parabolic Rail" thingy then he defected and set up Sunova... or something like that...

I'm not bagging them btw, i'm sure they work well... I've ridded FW's and they definitely work... just not my thang

Hardly a pop out. They are beautiful boards. Bert invented FireWire technology and a lot of work goes into them. But I agree probably priced a bit high should be more like 1200 as they are made in Thailand.

Yeah 1700 is a high price for a board from Thailand and I'm not bagging them,you have to add on the freight costs around 7k US for a 40 foot container.Plus local frees another 10k and that just to land one in a port.

They (mac) complained about them being too cheap.
Now they are too dear.

I love the Tolhurst, Takayama & obviously McTavish too.
But looking at epoxy to reduce any chances of deck compressions. Makes a board look like ****. But understand helps with grip & aids a rider to perform.
And looking at the other end of the scale. The really cheap boards of the Surfboard Warehouse. Seem excellent value too. And some have shown excellent durability too.
Which doesn't help with my confusion! Aaaargh! Lol.
So what performance longboard for a price around 1K give or take $200. Including delivery into NSW Australia.

They have all been keepers.

So Lacey please tell us how your surfboard warehouse boards have stood up in time and have you ever broken one in two and how did you break it

I reckon they look good (sb wharehouse). Don't own one but seen a few down the beach and finish / quality looked good.
A custom from
mctavish or Clearwater is a beautiful thing but I reckon surfboard wharehouse serves its purpose too. Cheap, reasonable quality and lots of unusual shapes to try. Different market and nothing wrong with that.
Look at Sunova as well - made in Thailand but would outlast a PU McTavish or Clearwater (or anyone else for that matter) 10 fold.
Buy what you have the $ for and what gets you excited!

It is already hurting/haunting us and it is getting to the stage of no return which is truly frightening

The government needs to provide an even playing field for aussie business and stop supporting their mates...free trade agreements get the f outta here

Mac how many Australian workers lost their jobs when your business was unable to compete with third world importers ?

This where the world is backwards ,it is all about a quick buck now and no care given to the future.....it is going to get scarier with A.I and automation pillaging the workers pockets

I will end this rant early,but I do hope we as Aussies can stop being so apathetic and start hounding and putting pressure on our elected officials and force change instead of people just hashtagging and sharing a do this moment.....

This also has a lot to do with Woolworths being completely shonky in their business practises across the board which the government keeps giving the green light to do

Chrispy 10's of thousands lost their jobs the whole industry collapsed within a year. The government did did FA at the time after years of asking for assistance as a member of the governing body for 6 years we got nowhere. I went to a store that fully supported Australian made a store I had not walked into for over 10 years and was blown away at the lack of design of offer compared to years gone. I asked the assistant so where's the Australian made stuff she said anything with a 10 year warranty sticker will be made here, I counted 5 the showroom was littered with 5 year warranty Chinese uninspiring stuff. There was a chair for $399 I made my mother in-law purchase the $ 1700 locally made chair, from memory the metal components in that chair cost me $340 bucks. People need to support local when the opportunity is there, I understand budgets come in to play but a lot of people don't give a rats until it effects them directly with buying imports. Long story short I exhibited at trade fairs big ones 100% Australian made I now attend these shows not one Australian made company to be seen a sad state of affairs.

Back to longboarding were it was passionately known as soul surfing, crafts are a real thing of beauty, I don't get that when looking at the pop outs. LACEY I not having a dig at you mate, ride what you like it's just my thing. I love a good looking surfboard but I think that's obvious.
