As I am very fair skinned and aging; I am looking for skin coverage options. I see there are full lycra suits available and wonder if anyone has used these for surfing? I would prefer a super light steamer, but they are hard to find in my size. (2XL). Adrenaline does a 'nudie' suit, but only in smaller sizes.

Wetsuit from BCF looks like good value.

Any feedback appreciated.

Mate, the best advice I can give is don't surf after 9am and / or before 5pm in summer - take advantage of early morning conditions and the evening glass off and leave the day for other / family activities in the warm months.

You may have noticed from previous posts that I wear a Gath summer and winter to protect my head from the sun, ears from 'surfers ear' for which I had the operation in 2013 and it also keeps me warm in winter as we lose 60% of body heat through our head.

Wetsuits, rashies and the like are fine but boardies, rashie and head coverage morning and evening have me seeing the skin cancer specialist every 6 months with nothing being burnt off for 2 years now after years of being smashed by them.

Good luck and stay stoked.

Surf came up and I went out at about 1pm.

It was really hot. kept covered, plenty of zinc etc, but next day felt knackered.

So I will try to stick to your advice.

P.S. I ordered this online, price $ seems right for a tryout.

Anthony G,
If I was you, I would buy the Skin Colour Compression Leggings, plus a Long Sleeve Rashie, plus Boardies...
This will help you blend into the crowd!

Man at that price it's a bargain as long as it does the job..for me early surf and out by 9am has seen me pretty good re skin cancers..maybe that's the idea..out before the sun has great intensity...good luck.

I used a lycra suit suit for many years surfing during the "Wet" in Darwin. (For the stingers). Water temp very high so there was a danger of suffering from heat stroke - but never sufferred a sting. They age/stretch so they need replacing regularly but didn't find them a hinderance.
