With my pre-loved LB on the way from Noosa, I thought I would look at grabbing a springy. Any tips on thickness, costs, brands, etc.

I've been using a very very low end springy all winter, it's a peak 2.2, cost me about 75 bucks on special.

It's one of those over the head chest zip type and I didn't buy it because it was cheap, I bought because I wanted a chest zip wetty and it was the only one I could get on and off without looking like harry houdine getting out of a straight jacket.

It did rip at the neck, but they repaired it in a couple of days and it's been good ever since.

Don't like back zip wettys, they always let a little bit of water into the small of your back, and hell it's cold.

Scotty I've got a couple of spring suits my newest one at the moment is a billabong SGX over the head . It's a bastard to get on and off esp for me with a stiff neck . Cost $150 ( normally about $300 apparently ) at the billabong warehouse gold coast , great place to get a good buy on a wetsuit . It's supposed to be made of the lightest wetsuit material on the market

Looks great hanging on the rack will get to wear it soon .

OB, 2.2 means 2mm chest and 2mm arms/legs right ?

Tassie, I went to that factory early last year and got some good bargains. There was a few shops out there at Ashmore I recall. I stocked up 1/2 price boardies for $40 - won't pay full price. There's a SDS warehouse in Sydney which everything is 1/2 price. I saw a steamer in there a few months ago for $250 (normally $500) and I freaked out that they cost so much now.

Scotty I think you would get more use out of a long sleeve jacket than a springy.

If your over Collaroy, there is a few places there 2 that usually have some cheap ones and surfection has a sale about now 2.

For me I'd get a Long Sleeve springy with 100% stretch in the shoulders. 2-2 is fine,
But depends if you feel the cold or not, for me the long sleeve springy is what i wear most.
except for the 3 odd months that's It's to cold and I'm in a steamer and the few months we get to wear boardies and a vest.

Scotty I am lucky to have a daughter not far from that factory who gets me all the supplies I need .

Have to agree with Mac I would be getting a vest this time of the year up there . Everyone is different though .some blokes surf here all year in spring suits , I spend most of the year in steamers

You are right with the 2/2 2 mm chest , 2 mm arms/ legs I am wearing 3/2 steamers here at the moment ,3 mm chest / 2 mm arms/ legs

Yes, 2 mm all over, I don't know how I managed to get thought most of winter with it and nothing other than a long sleeve rashy under it. I think that says more about how mild the winter was rather than how good the wetty is.

Longy wet suit shop is about the best on this side for price and range, but dripping wet in manly is where I got mine from.

If you're fair dinkum with Andrew about the price you can get it for somewhere else, he'll do his best to match it or beat it.

Mate, I'm still in the steamer, water is 15 degrees, middle of the day, I'll wear a short sleeve Staemer or the LS springy but if it's overcast and cold or windy, steamer all the way for me. But over the next few weeks I'll be back in the springy.

If you don't feel the cold just go a short sleeve springy in 2-2. Get a decent one, by that I mean one with the stretch stuff in the shoulders, preferably all over, makes them heaps more comfy IMO. The one Tux mentioned above looks like a good deal..

I reckon short arm springy is the go 2/2.
Is chest zip the go ?
Sounds easier as OB said it feels like Harry Houdini getting out of a back zip.

Scotty the way I understand chest zips allow less water in then the back zips so are warmer .
Depends on how flexible you are but for me chest zips are pricks of things to get on and off .
Back zips can be awkward too but I find them much easier then the chest zip .

TB, Why are the chest zips do hard to get off/on ?
I would have thought they would be as easy as zipping up a jacket.
Now I'm a confused individual.

Na, shoulder zips usually have a different type of seal, so they take a bit of getting used to, ATM i have all back zips. On a springy IMO a bit of cold water is ok cause im not wearing it in winter but my next steamer will be shoulder cause as OBCT said those few drops that come in feel freezing.

Generally a shoulder zip will seal better and be slightly warmer, only cause your less likely to get water in it. but your likely to stretch it and wear it out sooner than a back zip. back zips are usually cheaper.

I bought a sh1tload of 1/2 price boardies last year when I was up there.
Never pay full price again.
I reckon the flights will cancel out the savings on the springy Ted.
Sounds like you had a good time on that 'working' trip.
